Light snow is moving out of SW Michigan early this morning and the advisories will expire at 8 am. We received 2 inches here in Otsego which brings our February total to 23.4 inches and 54.4 inches for the season. Yesterday’s high temp was 29° and the low 18°.
A dry, quiet weather pattern is expected for the weekend into the middle of next week. Temperatures will tend to be closer to normal for this time of year. Today we will have temps in the mid-20s with a north wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Forecast Discussion
- Steady Snow Moves East with light Lake Effect Tonight Area of mid-level f-gen and deformation axis moves east this morning with the back edge of the snow clearing the eastern zones by late morning. Northerly flow behind the departing surface low gradually goes northwest then west with lake effect snow showers moving inland by this evening. Inversion heights at or below 5 kft will limit accums to an inch or less with drying and subsidence putting and end to the snow showers by Saturday afternoon. - Weak Clippers Next week The northern stream dominates next week with northwest flow between western ridging and an upper low over eastern Canada. A low moves across southern Canada with a trailing cold front extending through the Great Lakes on Sunday. There is very little moisture to work with and only flurries are expected with this. A clipper then tracks across the Lakes on Monday night which could bring light snow depending on how far south it gets. The latest ECMWF is looking drier and further north than the GFS. Fast northwest flow brings another clipper close on the heels of the first one for Tuesday night into Wednesday with another chance of light snow. There is a signal for a more significant storm late in the week as the western ridge breaks down and is replaced with troughing. Details on track still to be seen as ensemble spread is considerable.
The last weekend in February and we have perfect winter conditions! Pure Heaven!
Let me describe the ski conditions up at Crystal Mt! Incredible, fantastic, beautiful, spectacular, unbelievable, Heaven on Earth, and just plain perfect! What a winter and who wouldn’t love this!
Just pulled into Rockford Meijer, there sure as heck ain’t 4 inches of snow on the ground now. Grass poking thru the snow as far as the eye can see! The warm sun sure did a number on the small amount of snow we got last night!
Heck even I’m heading to snow country tomorrow for some snowshoeing! But like I said the snow can stay in snow country and I will take the nice green grass here!! Lol!!
Yep! Current Southern Michigan snow depth is basically 0-2″ unless you drive 100 miles north.

Now we can focus our outdoor winter sports this weekend and the next snowstorm in March! What a winter! Later people, I am going out to play in the snow! Skiing here I come baby! Wow, wow and just wow!!!!!!!
Yep, better get out there before it melts today and tomorrow, enjoy your 6 hour drive with Kirkwood! LOL!
Ignorant!
Lol!!!! I love it!!!
I just got done snow blowing nearly 4 inches of fresh SNOW! Great call by the NWS for WWA and multiple schools are closed in the area! What a storm!
Lol! You actually fired up the snowblower for that??? Way to think about the environment!
Yep Slim 2” of snow here in Northwest Kent at my place. Another waste of a WWA. Typical of this entire winter. Only two times with our snowblower this year too, as it goes back into storage now. Luckily winter is in it’s dying days, so that is fantastic!!
Wow you must be using a defective ruler! What a joke! We got pummeled with snow just a few short miles from you!
Nope, 2 inches everywhere at my place! But everyone knows that there’s always 2 or 3 inches more snow per snowfall at your place than anywhere else!
Ignorant!
How can I be ignorant??? Just reporting what I saw this morning with my own two eyes, LOL!!!
No winds, no drifting, an inch or 2 of snow, yup, a pretty worthless WWA for this area as well. Like Slim, our snowblower has hardly been used again this Winter. Might as well pack it up and store it away in the barn. Maybe next year.
I measured about 2.5” of snow on my deck. Roads out here are snow covered and slippery currently.
I can’t get over how much of a great snowstorm we had last night! All outdoor winter sports will be perfect this weekend! Almost March and still getting snowstorms!
If you live in the UP that statement is 100 percent correct, here in Kent County, that is 100 percent WRONG!!
3″ of light, fluffy snow here, which made for easy shoveling. The roads were a bit sketchy this morning when I took the kids to school. I’m not convinced this was worthy of a WWA.
There was 2″ of that light fluffy snow here. And yes it was a easy shoveling of the driveway. I have only used the snowblower 2 times so far this winter and only had to put gas in it once. And I agree I do not think there was a need for a WWA but I feel that way a lot in the summer time as well with thunderstorm warnings as well. The general thinking then is better to be safe than sorry or something along that line.
Slim
I agree with you re: the summertime thunderstorms. I also agree that it is better to be safe than sorry, but there is a fine line between that and The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Wow! We have tons of schools closed and you are not sure it was a WWA.
According to WOOD-TV, there are only two public schools closed today – Kenowa Hills and Wayland Union.
Some schools in our area had a one or two hour delay, but no closures.
Lots of schools in the area had a planned winter break day today.
What on the World are you taking about? Tons of schools closed in Kent and Montcalm counties! Wow!
Yah, my kid has had school closed 2x this week. Once for ice and today for snow. But the sunny day took care of the roads pretty quickly. Most often school closing around me are due to rural roads being iced over.
That was straight from WOOD’s website. There were several on delay (like here) but only two public schools closed. Sorry bro but if you disagree, take it up with them.
Wow more typical fake news!
Beautiful late winter weather!
The RDB is batting 95% this year with snowfall forecasts! Clearly the best model on the market right now! What a whopper of a storm, especially just North of GR!!!!!! Wow, just wow, just wow!!!!!!!!!!!
There are reports of 4 to up to 6″ of snow to the north of GR.
Slim
Wow!
Must be more snow just North of GR and East, with tons of school closings! Incredible! My official new snowfall from last night is a whopping 3.5 inches of fresh fantastic snowfall! What a storm!!!!! Incredible!!!!!!!!
We also got 3.5”. Probably the second highest snowfall amount of the year for my area.
What a storm?
What a storm??? Yeah, I’m questioning why you are saying it too?
Looks like GR is reporting 2.1”. What a “snowstorm” LOL
Very quiet upcoming so the snow deficit will continue to grow.
Muskegon looks to end up with the biggest deficit in total snow fall with around 45″. Grand Rapids has around 65.5″ so far and Lansing should be around 44″ and they are above average. Grand Rapids will have to see how much snow falls in March and April before we will know for sure if there is a “deficit” or not but remember Detroit and Flint are above average. With just 38.7 at Detroit and 47.9 at Flint. Saginaw with just 28.5″ is will below average.
Slim
Oh yeah Mookie, Kirkwood had tears in his eyes last night as he came to the realization that winter is on death’s door now. He did say if you want winter fun though, you can drive 6 hours up to Grand Marais, where they have enough snow for winter activities, LOL!!
I just cleared the driveway and there is 2″ of new snow on the ground here. So kind of on the lower side of last nights forecast. At this time it is clear here and 16.
Slim
It is a winter wonderland outside! Everyone needs to get outside this weekend and do a winter sport! Who wouldn’t love snow this time of year! What a winter and another month with above normal snowfall! Incredible!!!!!
Great news! We got plastered with snow. It looks like 3 to 4 inches, which means another bingo for the RDB and a great call by the NWS and the warm weather nuts were wrong again! Incredible!
