Roller Coaster Week

We have 24° at 5 am this morning with clear skies and a full moon.   Yesterday our temps fell to 35° in the afternoon with snow and rain amounting to around .03 of an inch of precipitation.

This week will feature a rolling pattern of changes bouncing from warm to cool with our main chances of precipitation coming on Tuesday night which will consist of a rain/snow mix.  Wednesday will close out the month dry and sunny.

As we transition into April my main concern is the mainly dry pattern will continue as drought conditions spread into the northern tier of the U.S…  We have had a dry month with most of the rain falling on the 26th (1.56 inches) for a total of 1.78 inches for the month.  We have moderate drought conditions for most of SW Michigan mainly from dominant high-pressure systems which have brought us all the sun we have seen this month.;

Here are the peak wind speed from yesterday:

Forecast Discussion:

- Windy this afternoon through Tuesday

It will turn windy this afternoon as southerly winds steadily
increase through the day. Winds by evening should be gusting over
30 mph. At this point do not think we reach wind advisory criteria
this afternoon or evening. Strongest winds aloft come in tonight
with 40-45 knots at 1,000ft. We will not see that wind mix down at
night, but it will be breezy for sure. The strongest winds tonight
will likely be from Holland up the lakeshore. Tuesday looks to be
windy as well, especially in the morning through the midday hours
and across southern and southeast portions of the CWA, from GRR to
the south and east. The gradient stays in place in these locations
the longest ahead of the cold front. Wind gusts on tuesday will
likely reach the 30-40 mph range.

- Rainfall associated with a cold front Tuesday Night

Rainfall spreads across southern portions of the forecast area in
a post frontal setup with a wave lifting up the front. Models are
indicating anywhere from a tenth to maybe four tenths of an inch
of rain. Thinking the four tenths is a bit high with most areas
seeing a quarter of an inch or less. Not impactful rainfall for
sure.

- Lake effect snow possible Wednesday night

We have a window of potential lake effect snow from Wednesday
evening through Thursday morning. Delta T`s rise into the upper
teens C, with just enough moisture in the 1000-850mb layer. The
flow is quite northerly, so the best chances for lake effect snow
will be confined to the lakeshore counties and especially up near
the Points and down towards South Haven. Not expecting any major
accumulations, but could see a dusting to a half inch in spots.

- Mainly dry weather late this week and into the weekend

Mainly dry weather is expected through the entire forecast period,
outside of Tuesday night. From Thursday through Sunday though
there are no major system affecting the region. In fact we look to
be mainly dry. There is a shortwave in west-northwest flow moving
through the area Friday night and Saturday, but the profile just
looks too dry for much of anything.
