I am not one to risk life, limb and temper to foray into the jungle of commercial merchandise with others of the same mind to get limited bargains. I often wondered why this event couldn’t be spread over a period of days rather than hours which can bring out the worse in people. Meijers has it right this year offering deeply discount prices for the whole week. Some of my kids look forward to Black Friday every year however they have more fortitude than I do in my golden years.
We now are officially into the Christmas season and it is time to decorate the house with lights and other ornaments of the season. My neighbor and I light up the end of our dead end road so it looks like Christmas town down here especially when there is snow on the ground. This is when I risk life and limb scrambling around on ladders and on the roof putting up the lights. My wife gets the lights on the split rail fence out front plus most of the ornamentation in the house. We have an artificial tree as I have become aware of the silliness of killing a pine tree for only a month of use. Granted I was one of those who went out every year to get the perfect tree and delighted in the scent of freshness they would bring. However, like cattle they are raised for slaughter and as such their lives are cut short for our base needs.
Sorry, just my opinion and thoughts on the matter – being older now I am not of the will and mind to go out in the cold to search for and cut a tree in the winter months. Getting ones own fresh tree is a right of passage for many and can be enjoyed as a family event to get outside and into the woods or tree farm though arguments can ensue between husband and wife as to which one is the perfect tree.
We have winter storm watches across the central plains for this weekend which may give us some snow for late Sunday into Monday. Saturday and Sunday will bring us rain as we will be in the 40s. The storm track is still up in the air, however we may see two to five inches from this event. I will have a better idea come Sunday morning and wouldn’t be surprised to see advisories in place tomorrow. At this point there is a 50% chance of over four inches of snow and around 70% of over two inches. After this event we could see the lake effect snow machine kick in next week.
This is why winter forecasting is difficult, you look at the models one day and everything changes the next. I would say it would be a good idea to get the outside Christmas decorations installed this weekend.
