We may actually see the sun once again today before the clouds roll back in tonight. Here is the NWS take on the weather for the weekend into early next week:
* Areas of fog possible tonight * Drizzle and freezing drizzle possible on Saturday * Lake-effect snow will bring light snow accumulations and slick spots on roads Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning * Light snow possible early next week - mainly southern Michigan Monday into Monday night, then west of US 131 Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Looking at the system for early next week we may see more lake effect than synoptic snow, however this could change as it is still a few days out.
Now for the conclusion of my series of World Weather Records:

So this week we had the much hyped and beaten to death “Arctic Blast”, yet today is the third day out of 6 this week that is above normal. I guess tomorrow will be the tiebreaker. Quite some blast?
What a mild day! Still no signs of any big cold in sight. I love short winters!
Just got back from my walk outside. Boy today is a nice and mild mid December day. The sun is now out and the temperature is at 44 here at my house and there is no wind. The CPC long range guess is now for mild temperatures up to January 10th at this time no real sign of a lot of cold nor a lot of snow.
Slim
Sounds strikingly familiar to last year when the cold air kept getting pushed back and pushed back.
38* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR ….Let thee weekend begin Christmas music sprites on ice ..It’s the most wonderful time of the year ….INDY
I just saw something you don’t see every day in December. A motorcycle cop
No sun here and now the snow is all gone, The temperature here is now at 42.
Slim
Sun is shining here, up to 41!! Snow is all gone! Should be able to get rid of the rest of the leaves in my yard!! Love these short snowless winters we’ve been getting lately!!
Up to a very mild 42 degrees this afternoon, and last night never fell below freezing. Yard is again bare and green. Nice trend of below average snowfall we have been in the past couple months.
We even had some sun this morning. It is a nice day.
The snow is now all gone here now as well. I will be going out for a walk
Slim
Lol 42* degrees is very mild…What’s 60’s now hot ….INDY ..
With the sun out and zero wind at all, yes it feels very mild for the middle of December. Why don’t you give us all a snow report from your yard.
Great reads this week with the world records MV. The lightening one, must have been somewhat horizontal? If it was straight up it would be reaching close to the height of the space station which is a bit over 200 miles up.
Where’s the snow?
First off very interesting information on world weather records. There were some records of events that I did not know records were kept.
After yesterdays high of 39° and the overnight low staying above 32, I am now down to just a trace of snow on the ground. For today the average H/L is now at 35/24. The record high for today of 61 was set in 2015 and the record low of -6 was set in 1958. The record snow fall of 6.8” fell in 1973 and the snow depth of 15” in 1970 is the most on the ground. Still just 0.02″ short of setting a new yearly rain fall record here at Grand Rapids.
Slim
Where is the warm up there supposed to happen not seeing that anytime soon check out Christmas week looks to be very cold that will support lots of snow 3 times now we had the maroon maps thrown at us this month already the cpc funny stuff if you ask me ….Have a super Friday..The great white hype INDY ….
So far December 2019 is settling in to be an near average December around here. Getting a little behind on the snow fall. We shall see how the rest of the month plays out.
Slim
I am heading up to snow country for the weekend! Nubs has already seen about 30 inches of natural snow this season! It will be an absolutely incredible weekend! Nothing better than fresh snow and outdoor winter sports! This is much better than golf or hot summer weather!
Most of northern Michigan is now at above average for snow fall as of this date.

Bring on the snow!!
Tape measure has always worked for me.
O.H. wait… maybe they are talking about that cardboard thing that fabric stores wrap the fabric around…
How in the world is the length of a lightning bolt measured??
I was wondering about that myself…
I didn’t know there were records that.
Slim
I was wondering that and how do they count how many strikes? I know I they have graphics, but I would get lost in all of them. LOL!!!
