A bit cold out there this morning – temp is 12° at 7:30 here in Otsego. Appears to be a quiet morning over most of the U.S. – there is some snow north of Minnesota – that’s it folks…. All the weather hazards exist on the other side of world where Europe has been fighting heavy snows and avalanches in the Alps.
After a sunny day yesterday we will move back to cloudy conditions today. Typically we are in the coldest part of winter now and we will see our temps fall by the weekend to below normal into the teens and single digits. Even with the cold air moving in this does not guarantee heavy snowfall for most of Michigan as storm systems may continue to pass south of us. In regards to lake effect for the western counties we still need some wind moving off the lake with enough lift and moisture to move the snow inland. Still a bit early to determine how the cold air will effect the state.
Short term we will see some patchy drizzle and a wintry mix through Wednesday morning. A couple of cold fronts will make their way into the state one on Wednesday and another on Thursday which could usher in some snow flurries. Models show snow for the weekend but they continue to struggle on the track and amounts – we will have a better idea as we get further into the week.
100’s of accidents in Kent county this morning it’s crazzy out there be safe …INDY!

If the storm coming stays to the south good old lk effect should get Crankin Saturday drag some clippers down with it we will be in business Slim..No fun if it’s bitter cold and no snow ….INDY!
Thirteen weeks to go…as usual. Four inches a week? Easy for us. A wonderful gift if it doesn’t happen, and just another winter if it does.
LOL In 13 weeks the average high is almost 60 degrees.
As Slim stated earlier, what a historic and record breaking Winter at the halfway point. This isn’t some daily record, or several day record, but almost 2 full months of what is usually our highest snow total months. That is just flat out remarkable that we have only had 4 inches of snow during this period. I’ve seen lake effect dump that much in 2 hours time. Even if the rest of the Winter would end up being average, it can’t erase what has happened the first half.
Wow coldest night of the seasons last night I was watching the temps crash fast some places ended up 0* degrees …I notice Ice chunks flooting down the Grand River yesterday our furnace has been cranking at night it will be crankin during the day now this weekend with high temps only in the teens from loving the cold..Have a great Monday all eyeys on this week’s storm MV’S best…INDY!
Well not according to Bill. He has on his blog today that it was the 2nd coldest day this Winter season. Now I suppose he’s wrong as well?
It was berry cold!! Lol! INDY!
And don’t forget ZERO snow! Incredible!
Last night I had a low of 11.8° here at my house and that is one of the coldest nights I can remember with no snow on the ground. Of course there is some frost on the ground. the clouds have now moved in and the temp is now up to 24°

There was some talk way back in November of the historic winter we were about to have well in a way that has been true. We are now at the half way point of meteorological winter. And the numbers are still the same. Snow fall for January 1.1” since Dec 1st 4.3” and for the season 18.7” and on the temperature side December and January are still way above average. In Grand Rapids history there has NOT been a winter were the first 45 days have seen this little snow fall so yes this has been a very historic winter so far.

It is amusing reading through the posts back in November. You would have thought we were heading for a 240 inch snowfall Winter. Not so much. In fact, reading through some of them, you Slim were the only one suggesting that there just might not be much snow this Winter. Great call!
We are up to 35 days in a row without a below average day! GR is now 20″ below average in snowfall on the season.
The average temps start rising in less than a week.
