First off, condolences to all the comic fans of Stan Lee. Having been a youngster of the 1960s I knew him well via his tales of the Marvel super heroes. Marvel and DC comics were great prizes to kids and adults alike as we waiting for each new issue to come out at the news stands and stores. I wish I had held on to the massive piles of comics my brother and I collected when we were kids – they probably wouldn’t have been worth much as collectables because they were reread so often and became tattered over time – they would have been more of memorabilia of a time when heroes fought crime and brought justice to the land. Stan Lee lived to the ripe old age of 95.
Lee was also a WW2 veteran – he enlisted in 1942, shortly after hearing of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a lineman for the Signal Corps before the Army realized his writing skills and moved him into technical writing and doing posters. The feature image shows him during this period.
I believe this is what brought me into being a fan of science fiction as I think back to the hundreds of books I have read in that genre over the years. I am a prolific reader of fiction and non fiction. Books open the mind to ideas other than our own. Most of my books are in electronic format now, however I still have a large collection of hard cover books, many going back to the late 1800s to early 1900s which are collectables. If you compare English language between then and now you will notice it has been dumbed down quite extensively past the 1950s. Grammar has been slaughtered by slang and easier words and sentence structures.
The winter weather advisory for Allegan and Van Buren counties will expire at 11am this morning. We currently have some light snow falling here in Otsego with an inch or so on the ground. Any left over snow showers will end tonight bringing sunny conditions for tomorrow and Thursday which will melt most of the snow on the ground.
Came across this most excellent Version of this Jackson Browne Song.
Enjoy….hApPy hUMp dAy.

I have been pretty busy lately however I am ready for a rock m roll winter party!!!!
Now for the el Nino – we will be seeing a weak El Niño this winter and tons of snow! Mark it down! Watch out especially in February and March!!

The key terms used in this article are: could, possible, hint? We will not see a strong El Niño and we will see plenty of cold and snow this winter! Get ready!
What an absolutely incredible cold stretch we are in!
Nice write up on Stan. He influence is incredible. I will miss his cameos in the movies.
Getting our tree Thanksgiving weekend thats about a week ahead for us .. We are ready.. INDY!!
👍
18* degrees low temp for tonight it’s down right cold for early mid November.. seeing a lot of Christmas lights I’m thinking the winter weather is making people get into the holiday Spirit early this year!! INDYDOG14!
A lot of Christmas lights up already in our neighborhood too. I’m thinking of hanging ours this weekend, but I will not turn them on until after Turkey Day.
I hung ours last week. We have a remote to turn them on. (I don’t like to go out in the cold at dark. LOL!!) We don’t turn ours on until after Thanksgiving, but the button has been a few times on accident and as soon as we notice…off they go. LOL!!!
“There are actually some signs of a several week warm-up coming our way.” MLive

The stronger the El Nino the better chance that Grand Rapids would have a green Christmas. Since 1950 the years with a weak El Nino have seen a white Christmas 65% of the time for a moderate El Nino it is 70% for a strong El Nino it is 40% and for a very strong El Nino it is 33% in fact one of the years with a very strong El Nino 1982 Grand Rapids set the record warmest Christmas day ever with a high of 65° and one of the “White Christmases” 1965 it was green until late Christmas eve when a snowstorm hit southern Michigan. Any way it would not surprise me at all to see a December warm
up.

Seeing some thoughts on a week El Nino last week for Michigan now a strong EL Niino but I’m thinking all the cold so early in the season is making meteorology change there minds with the early cold weather lots of talk of it warming up now and being a warm winter because of pass patterns it getting cold then it gets warm .. What ever warm up we have Coming will be short lived lots of snow pack to our north will keep us cool! Time will tell ..INDY!
The last numbers that I have seen are Nino 4+0.8C Nino 3.4 +0.8C Nino 3 +0.9C and Nino 1-2 +0.8C. In the last two weeks Nino 4 has gone down from +1.1° to that +0.9C Nino 3.4 down from +1.2C to that +0.8C Nino 3 has stayed at +0.9C but Nino 1-2 has gone up from +0.2C all the way up to that +0.8C the cut off for El Nino is +0.5C. At this time it looks like the warmer water temperatures are moving more to the east and that would indicate a less chance of the so called Modiki El Nino.

Uncle Slim can you tell us what the record low is today going to get down into the teens tonight which is crazzy for this time of November right ?? INDYDOG14!!
The record low for November 13th is 10° set in 1986 (that would be before midnight) the record low for the 14th is 13 set in 1969 the record low for the 15th is 10 set in 1933. It is rare for the temperature to drop below 20° this time of the year.
Slim

At this time there is light snow falling and a trace of snow on the grass and road. The current temperature here at my house is now at 28.9° and that is the low since midnight. So far this November has a mean temperature of 39.5° at Grand Rapids the average mean for the time of November is 43.7° so that is a departure of -4.2° The average high so for is 44.0° this is well below the normal average high of 51.6° the average low so far has been 34.9° the normal average low is 35.8° so far 5..3″ of snow has fallen at the airport. Here at my house I have only recorded 3.9″ of snow fall so far this month.
