My wife and I drove to south Kalamazoo, Center Ave. on Wednesday, from Otsego to Center Avenue there is still snow on the ground, not much but enough to say there is snow on the ground which has held on since our last snow event.
We now have another event which will add to our meager snow fall totals thus the Winter Weather Advisory. To the left is the predicted total snowfall totals (NAM) with the most falling along the I94 corridor to the south. The bottom graphic is the WWA in blue.
If you want to see the totals for your area look at the point forecast graphs on the front page. The GRR NWS is predicting 1 to 3 inches along I96 and 3 to 5 inches along I94. Regardless of amounts this should be enough to break out the snow shovels.
Keep in mind the NWS issues these advisories when there is the possibility of slippery roads and hazardous travel conditions, not so much for heavy snow with is event.
The snow will begin later tonight and last through around noon on Saturday. The advisory lasts until 4pm tomorrow. Then the temps fall to our coldest air of the season with sunny skies on Sunday and Monday with highs in the teens and lows below zero. Temps should recover to above freezing on Wednesday as our next system comes into play which could be a rain/snow event.
SNOWING like crazy here since about 10:30PM. Roads are really slick!
Love it finally it’s so beautiful outside ..Monther Nature at it’s best …INDY!
First real taste of winter hitting this weekend. Actual below zero temps on the way. My shovel is ready for whatever amount of snow we get. Bought a couple of bags of salt i am hoping will last the rest of the winter. 🙂
Clearly this is the start of a major pattern change towards real winter weather! Bring it on and keep it coming baby!
But that’s exactly what you said in November…..

Good afternoon MV’S best going for a low -5 Sunday Night that’s “shivering timbers” cold, I hope everyone is ready this will be a fantastic winter weather weekend tracking a big band of snow moving towards Michigan from the West I would imagine 3-5 inchses at best. We are hunkering down at the YARDOFBRICKS cooking big staying warm drinking sprites and watching it snow all night from on my busy weather sites to MV’S best be safe tonight have a super weekend!! INDYSNOW!!
Jeepers, that’s 35 degrees colder than it is now!
Hey Mark we can’t forget wind chills -15 -20 below Monday morning I just watched Matt Kirkwoods “Wood tv 8” winter weekly snow report he showed the 45 day map and has us being colder then normal to March 1st now not sure how accurate that is but would not surprise me with having a mild start to Winter … Crazzy ..I hope your wife is safe this weekend ….INDY!
Brrr! I spoke with her this morning. She is going to wait until Sunday to venture home.
So our outlook for the next few days is maybe an inch or so tomorrow as yet another storm passes us by, then a rain/mix event for Tuesday? Looks like our weather pattern hasn’t changed.
Looks like our pattern has not changed lol! INDY!
It looks like we have a chance of clear skies Sunday night if so we will have a total lunar eclipse. It will be cold so you might want to bundle up.

The Super Blood Wolf Moon. The next time we get another one those is not for another 18 years. If visible, the best time is between 10:30 and midnight.
Our son did a paper on this event this week, so I know more about it than I could’ve imagined. 🙂
LOL!!!! I know we have been learning about it as well!!!
Here at my house I recorded .3″ of snow last night. While in most winters that would not be much but so far this winter that enough to make the driveway, road and grass areas white and that is something that has not happened much this winter. The temperature here at my house is 27.7° with cloudy skies, The next system really don’t look to put down much snow for much of our area maybe enough to cover the ground for a while. And with the next system there are hints that one may bring some rain mixed with snow to the area so that may not be a big snow maker either, but with that one there may be a better chance of lake effect. We shall see. One thing is for sure we do not need a January thaw this year.

Sounds like another advisory for a non-event. 1 inch of snow in the second half of January? Yesterday felt fairly cool, but yet another day to add to the total of above average days:
https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/us/mi/grand-rapids/KGRR/date/2019-1-17
Yesterday you were wondering how far north one would have to go to find a snow cover on the ground. Well this morning there is some snow on the ground here in Grand Rapids and points north. But to find the best snow cover (until tomorrow) it would be north of M 55 where there is a solid (but not deep by January standards) snow cover,

Rock on slim and I am up in the traverse city area and there is plenty on snow for outdoor winter sports! It is beautiful!
Methinks these WWAs are merely a heads up for travelers.
