The main theme for today will be the wind with advisories and warnings for much of the U.S. east of the Mississippi River. Our wind advisory will last through 8 pm this evening and a lakeshore flood warning is in place through 5 am tomorrow.
From the NWS:
It will be windy today as northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph gust into the 40 to 50 mph range at times. Loose objects will be blown around if not secured and some power outages are possible. Rain showers will end around midday with cloudy skies on tap for the afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon will hold in the 35 to 40 degree range.
The trend in the models has been to finally converge on a slightly weaker system today at 2 pm. That said, the low is still a formidable low with a depth in the 980-985mb range depending on what model you look at. All of our headlines still look good, gales on the lake and a Wind Advisory on the land. Overall the trend of slightly weaker has been occurring for several days. We have been monitoring 2 pm today for the depth and position of the low. The low is not only a bit weaker but a bit further away at 2 pm as well, now forecast to be north or northeast of Lake Huron. Both the weaker depth of the low and the further distance have impacts on our wind gusts today. Yesterday we were thinking there would be frequent gusts of 50-57 mph, now its slightly lower in the 45 to 55 mph range. 45 mph gusts are advisory levels. 55 mph may be tough to attain actually as those types of winds are not in the forecast mixed layer.
I love these long winters! Very cold week!
Life in the Southern Arctic :/ The miracle of 2020 will be the recognition of an 80 degree day…if it happens at all.
It may hit 80 degrees by around mid June or so!
0.17” of rain here overnight. Top wind gust today so far is 39 mph, high temp of 57 earlier, down to 38 now. No blizzard, no “most snowfall we’ve seen all year”, all just hype like most of the national news.
Was thinking the same Barry. The wind wasnt as bad as predicted. We have had worse. Were was all that snow some were talking about. Lol !
Yeah, the NWS got this one wrong. I dragged the trampoline up next to the house and secured with some bags of topsoil. I didn’t even need to move it.
Hopefully Rocky gets out and enjoys the last few days of high temps in the 40’s with rain and winds! Perfect Rocky day out there today! After Friday it may be the last day with highs in the 40’s til October! Get out there and get in the mud Rocky!
