Spent the day at Gun Lake yesterday with the family where the water is warmer and the waves smaller. The air was cool and windy in the shade and warm in the sun and sand. I like the park because I can sit in the shade of the old oak trees and read.
The lake is separated into an east and west basin which differ significantly in depth and structure. The west basin where the state park is, is almost uniformly shallow and has a maximum depth of 5 feet, with the exception of Robbin’s Bay and Pickerel Cove, which have maximum depths of 34 and 25 feet, respectively. It seems one can walk halfway across the lake before it goes over the head.
We will have some beneficial rain move in later this morning and continue off and on throughout the day into Tuesday morning. We have had around an inch and a quarter rainfall this month in Otsego – amounts today could almost double that amount with around an inch forecasted for most of the area. This will be one of those days to stay inside and enjoy a break from outdoors projects.
It will be windy and rainy most of the day through tonight into tomorrow morning, something we have seen very little of the past couple months. There could be some non-severe thunderstorms around the area.
High temps this week will remain in the low to mid 70s to close out the month.
Where is all of this so called rain and where have all the so called hot temps been lately? 2 weeks ago the warm weather fanatics were sure we were headed for another heat wave! Better luck the next time! Incredible!
It does’nt seem to matter which direction the “weather” arrives from…GR is always the dry-slot 🙁
Ha, yeah. Just looking at the radar and there’s a giant circle of no rain around us. Raining in almost every direction but here.
Well lots of heavy rain over the lake, not so much here. Few spits for 10 minutes measuring in at 0.00”. Doesn’t look overly promising to the South right now, more area where it’s not raining than where it is raining.
What a beautiful weekend in Ludington our last summer trip out on Hamlin lk Saturday when the clouds moved over the sun it got chilly with the wind blowing and soon as the sun dropped hoodies on fire a rolling all the way home people pulling there trailers south some leaves even turning brown with our gals back to school today Summer is officially over for INDY! Some rain would be great, just hope we don’t get stuck in one of those vertical dry bands coming up from the South. We were at Grand Haven beach yesterday afternoon and with the East wind it was actually hotter there than at home. In the sun out in the sand with little to no breeze it was 82 degrees, had to actually get in the water several times to cool down.
Barry, I have a reply from the NWS but still no answer on the daily mean temperate question. Here is a copy of the answer that I received this morning
James,
Apologies for the delay in responding to your email. I have copied the person who will be able to answer your questions. He is currently out of the office but should be able to respond later this week or early next week.
Thanks,
ms
So will see if I get a response later this week or next week I will post if I do
Slim
Well at least they’ve responded, and looks like eventually we’ll have an answer!
Bring on the rain and let the great summer weather continue! No 90’s in sight despite the warm weather hype!
