This is one of those times I hate being a prognosticator of the weather, being dependent of maps, charts and models we try to guess which way storm systems are going to travel and their intensity – it is times like these they seem to have a mind of their own. If the HRRR, RAP and NAM had feelings they would be hanging their heads in shame. Areas in SW Michigan picked up 0 to a trace of rain yesterday while a couple reports NW of Lansing saw a tenth to a quarter inch. Today the models are all over the place for rainfall (below). This is one of those cases where rain could be heavy in one area with none in another which seems to be the norm for this summer.

It is a sure bet we should see mostly cloudy skies today with scattered showers and storms with the heavier rains being in the SE side of the state. Most of the city point forecasts (on the main page) are giving us around a tenth of an inch for SW Michigan with a quarter to a third of an inch around Detroit and Ann Arbor. The system passing through will continue with the best chances of rain on Friday to be the same as today. Areas south and east of Grand Rapids will have the best chances.
ADA – nearly 100 raindrops received in 15 minutes.
Slim is talking my style! Already getting on board with the WARMER and drier winter! BRING IT!!!
Another heat wave?!

Centered smack over us again?? This is getting to be relentless!
I hope this is wrong. I am ready for some cooler weather. I know we get what we get but like some have said enough hot weather.
There are no heat waves in sight! Just a few days slightly above normal which is NOT a heat wave! Keep your facts straight!
Well as Slim’s stats indicated, we are heading for the 5th hottest August in recorded history. That is way more than “slightly above normal”.
The FACT remains there is no heat wave in sight! Mookie is trolling his usual warm weather bias with no facts!
Not weather related, but RIP Queen Aretha!!! Iheart radio is playing all Aretha songs. It is GREAT!!!
I read it is also the 41st anniversary that Elvis passed, too!!! How interesting the King and Queen pass on the same day!!!
Babe Ruth also passed on this day three great ones for sure ….INDY!!
That is Crazy. Just read that somewhere else and the Said the Sultan, King, & Queen all died on the same day….
So far August 2018 has been very warm and dry. If the current mean temperature of 75.3° were to hold for the 2nd half that would put August 2018 as the 5th warmest August in GR recorded history. While it has been dry there have been many past Augusts that have been dryer than GRR official amount of 1.37” Remember the longer it stays dry the warmer it can get in the day time and with clear skies and lower DPs the cooler it can get at night.

I was surprised to see the airport reported 0.17” of rain yesterday. Here at my house not one drop. In fact there has been much more rain at the airport then in NW Grand Rapids for more than a month now. For August GRR is now reporting 1.37” of rain while here at my house just 15 miles NW of the airport I only have receive 0.42” of rain. And I tell you things are getting dry in my neck of the woods. Barry mentioned leaves just falling off trees well that is now happing here now. Also some trees are now showing some yellow from stress.

Have we felt our last 90* day for the summer? Will we get a severe Thunderstorm this summer? With the days winding down the questions come out!! Have a great Thursday ..INDY!!
It is very dry so I can and will not rule out a any more 90’s this summer.
Slim
yes; no. Bring on Fall and then WINTER!
This phantom rain reminds me of our phantom snow storms we always have. It is getting crazy dry here, the corn stalks in the fields are shriveling up and looking spiny. Couple more weeks of this I think the leaves will just start dropping off without much color.
I just checked while GRR has reported 1.37″ of rain this month. Holland, Muskegon and here at my house it has been well under a half inch (0.50″) with 0.45″ at Holland, 0.46″ at Muskegon 0.37″ at Hart and 0.42″ at my house.

We did get a few light sprinkles here last night around 7:30.
Yesterday was GR’s 5th straight day between 87-90 and the 15th warm day in a row! The August heat and humidity has been unrelenting.
Just took a peak JAMSTEC and The latest IRI Multi-Model ensemble and there are hints of a warmer and in our area dryer winter coming up. Of course all long range guesses have to be taken with a grain of salt. BTW yes it has been a great summer this year. with a lot of sunshine and warm temperatures. We sure could use some rain.
