We have now reached the midpoint of the year and have found ourselves in the midst of an actual summer like pattern which will last through the week. The ground is finally drying out, even with the lack of rain the grass is lush as the roots have grown deep this year. Groundskeepers, and those who cut grass for a living are keeping busy. I generally fertilize my lawn every four to six weeks and am paying for it by having to mow every four days.
Below are the predicted dewpoints, temps and POP (probability of precipitation) for today:

Next are the SPC outlooks for today and tomorrow – the western portions of Michigan are in the marginal risk for storms for today and most of lower Michigan for tomorrow. We have multiple chances of storms this week. A warm front will move through tonight which may bring an outside chance of storms – a better chance comes tomorrow when the trailing cold front moves through. As I said yesterday, the 4rth may bring in fireworks from storms.

80* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE GR we are losing the sun it sure feels better then this afternoon outside..INDY!
No more debating if it will hit 90.. It’s official starting today..
Air conditioning along lk Michigan had the windows down out in Grand Haven air temp was 75* degrees felt wonderful amazing what a big cool body of water can do….INDY!
This is unbelievable, a hail storm in Mexico dumped 5 feet of hail!!?
https://www.foxnews.com/world/freak-hailstorm-in-mexico-buries-cars-swamps-streets-in-feet-of-ice
That’s incredible!
Now that is incredible!!!
I’m not sure of the significance of 90°. Anything over 82° or so is too hot for me – especially when the dew points are in the 60s and 70s. Give me 75° and low humidity and Mark is a happy boy
100% agree. With all the nonsense over 90, the actual heat index is over 90, so anyone who really wants to feel what over 90 is like can go hang outside right now.
Well it’s now 90° in GR and Lansing. What will have to talk about now? LOL
95? Ha!
100 degrees, it’s always 10 degree increments, LOL!!
Well it’s the hottest part of summer now so 90*s are pretty common for this time of year seeing how we are way past the avarage date of the first 90* degree tempture in west Michigan so only 4 locations reading 90* sofar arcoss the state is pretty low in my thoughts today … INDY!!
Saginaw is up to 90 degrees. That is now 4 locations in Michigan that have hit 90+ today. And counting.
The Oakland County Airport in Troy is now reporting 90. Make that 5 different Michigan locations. You can now see how many areas hit 90, even when the few record keeping locations may not report it.
Who cares about Eastern, MI?
The temperature here at my house is now at 91° waiting to see what GRR’s 3PM reading is
Slim
The 3 pm reading at GRR is at 87 with a DP of 68 and at Willow Run it is at 93
Slim
Marshall and Three Rivers are now reporting 90 degrees. So, yes, West Michigan has seen 90’s once again today.
Grand Haven State Park only 75* degrees still many locations in west Michigan still in the 70*s once again today ..INDY!!
At 220pm air temp out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE GR 84* degrees I thought for sure today would be the day we hit 90* today maybe the only chance this Summer ..Hotest part of the day is close …INDY!
At 2pm, Detroit Willow has hit 92 degrees. In West Michigan, Three Rivers is up to 89 degrees.
At 1pm, the highest temp on the NWS’s Regional Weather Roundup (at their designated locations) was 86 degrees. However, if you dig below the surface and expand locations, you will see multiple readings of 88 degrees at NWS observation areas in Lower Michigan already! So yes, another day in the 90’s for some in Lower Michigan today looks all but guaranteed.
NWS’s Regional Weather Roundup (at their designated locations) That is a new term.
Slim
They’ve been publishing one every hour for as long as I can remember:
https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=DTX&product=RWR&issuedby=MI
Dig below the surface?? Reminds me of the wind driven snows the NWS missed adding up this past Winter ..it sure was a windy one..INDY
What a winter!
Storms?…not in the weather-proof Southetn Arctic. Enjoy the temporary “mild” temps, as this week will constitute your “Summer”. The downhill slope into a catastrophic Winter begins in August. The 40 degree average high for September will help everyone practice their crucial Winter Survival Skills.
First, you complain about rain and storms and now you complain when we have beautiful sunny days? Interesting.
Note his screen name. 😁
Great call…Lol..INDY!
About as humid as you can get in this area this morning. Everything outside was so wet and soaked, I thought it had rained overnight. Nope, just the dew. You can get away from some heat going in he shade, but you can’t get away from the humidity.
The air is so heavy this morning!! Not even a breeze.
Here is a link to the Michigan (and you can get other states as well) map
http://www.usairnet.com/weather/maps/current/michigan/dew-points/
Slim
Nice link! Several 70s showing up on the dp map.
Barry the latest DP’s are in the upper 60’s to around 70 high for this area but not unheard of.
Slim
No, not unheard of, but down right unpleasant working in it. Feel like I need to shower every 10 minutes.
Especially the height of Summer lol…INDY
Why is everything a joke to you?
Everything you say somehow gets countered by Slim or Indy now days on here. It’s pretty strange. You never claimed this was an all-time record high or anything. Just stating the facts!
Wrong again I bet you a dirty 30pk of Sprites Berry response to my post more then I response to his post he loves reading mine, I love skipping over his…And the winner is?? Lol..INDY!
That’s because I try and back things up as well as posts links/pics/graphs while you post whatever you’re thinking at the time, be it accurate or not with nothing to back it up.
Rock on!
Dew points in the 70’s are not very common in Michigan. The state dew point high today has been 72 degrees. Wow!
No it only happens just about ever summer. When was the last time Michigan did not have a day or several days where the DP did not reach 70° or better??
Slim
72 degree dew point, you mean, so far. That would be pretty notable for this date I bet.
Another day in the 90’s in Southern Michigan today? Who knew?
Yes day after day and day of 90 heat across southern Michigan will will this end? Lets see how many days of official 90° heat has Michigan had so far has Michigan had? Detroit 1 (91) Flint 0, Saginaw 0, Lansing 0, Grand Rapids 0, Kalamazoo 0, Battle Creek 0 and Muskegon 0 Hey maybe today several locations will have one. 12 noon reading at GRR 82 and here at my house it is now at 85.
Slim
Wow, Slim is really getting rude lately! Truth is there have been 90’s in Lower Michigan several days of this current heat streak. Weather happens outside of a handful of “official” record keeping locations – which some seem to have a hard time comprehending on here.
Just stating the facts. Some of the temperatures you mention come from Cooperative Weather Observers and while their readings may considered “official” if one can not look up their record it is of not much use for record keeping. Like I have stated there have and will be back yards where the readings are different then the airport readings. But so far the only few major locations have reached 90 or better in Michigan and that would include the locations that you have mentioned. BTW here at my house I now have a temperature of 88 while the last reading at the airport was 84 but guess what the GRR reading is the official reading for GR at this time.
Slim
They are listed as observations on the NWS official website. That’s official enough for me. At these locations, we have seen 90+ degree temps at least the past 3 or 4 days and likely again today. But thanks for the sarcasm and mocking.
no problem.
Slim
Thanks Slim for the Facts day in day out as always …This summer is nothing compared to last Summer thank God! INDY!
Indy it is still too early to tell how this summer will end up. But chances are it will not be one of the hotter ones in GR history but we shall see.
Slim
I posted this yesterday and will toss this up one more time today as we now have flipped over to July.
According to Steven Dimmatino the time up to or just past the 9th could be the warmest period of the summer of 2019.
“The weather pattern right now on through July 9th will likely feature the hottest period of the Summer for much of the eastern half of the US. As we can see in the EPS data, this pattern and the above normal temperatures are directly linked to a relaxation of the negative EPO pattern which allows heights to rise over the eastern United States and thus tropical air is able to push further north. Note, even in this favorable hot weather pattern, there remain cold fronts trying to push south with thunderstorms being a threat. That relaxation of the EPO is now over and the index is crashing faster than the stock market in 1929. This signal tells me that the support for sustained heat in the Eastern United States is about to come to a rapid end. I’ve discussed what factors are behind this process in Long Range Thoughts the past several weeks and months. With the EPO tanking, the Arctic Oscillation (AO) and the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) are also moving into negative to neutral states now and likely to remain in that position through at least the middle of August. These teleconnections would support an active pattern for the Eastern United States for cold fronts and thus severe thunderstorm potential. Polar air masses In short, I see this pattern to feature many days where high temperatures are likely to be near to below normal than above. You might get a few warm days sprinkled in, but they won’t last and will be followed by dry, cool Polar air masses pretty quickly. Morning low-temperature anomalies will be interesting to observe due to the expectation for moisture content to be high with the abundant rainfall with clashes between the Polar air masses and the tropical air masses we normal see over the Southeast. We’ll see if that idea will verify or not. Will be able to advance further south in this pattern, and sustained heat will be very difficult to support.”
If this plays out it could be that there could be just a 2 week period of warm summer weather this year.
Slim
Just as expected June has now became the 6th month in a row and now 8 of the last months have had below average mean temperatures. July will start with above average temperatures but not sure if that will last for the whole month.
Slim
Today maybe GR best and only shot hitting 90* degrees this Summer I’m thinking!! The 30 day outlook is in below normal temps that’s kind of been the norm for the last 6 months ..Get out and feel it today …INDY!
Come to the capital city if you want to experience 90°. 😓
Had to fire up the irrigation system this weekend for the first time this season. Things are becoming dry.
I noticed that when I cut the grass last week kicking up a lot of dust was kind of shocked after all the rain we had..We are getting dry also…INDY!!
Officially the warmest it has been at Lansing so far this year is 87. So while many back yard readings may have reached 90 it was not official.
Slim
Welcome to day 7 of the warm streak! Lake Michigan temps could soon be average or above average. How can this be?
