Weekend Forecast – Tropical Storms

After a quiet period in the Atlantic and Pacific Tropical storms are beginning to ramp up.  At the beginning of the month, we saw the Saharan dust move across the Atlantic into the south and the central U.S…  The dry air moving across the Atlantic pretty much put a quash on any tropical storm formations.

Hanna is expected to move across southern Texas into northern Mexico.  Gonzalo should skirt across the northern coast of South America and Douglas is moving towards Hawaii.

Today we can expect a fairly pleasant day with lots of sun and temps in the low to mid-80s.  Tomorrow the temps and dewpoints ramp up with highs in the mid to upper 80s and near 90 for Sunday.  Our next chance of rain and storms come Sunday night into Monday, if there is a severe chance of storms it looks to come on Monday along and south of I-96. This would be highly contingent on the amount of clouds and showers that linger out of Sunday night into Monday morning.

So far this summer has been warmer than average and we have had what can be said more than average number of 90 days. Well here is how we stand as of July 24. At Grand Rapids there have been 13 days of 90 or better. The mean since records have been started at GRR is guess what 13 the 30 year average is 11. At Muskegon they have had many more than average 90 days this year with 13 so far and their mean all time and 30 year average days are both 3 the record number there is… Read more »

Thanks for the stats Slim! It has been a hot Summer so far especially since we passed our average # of 90 degree days in early July already. Hopefully we don’t have a September like 2 years ago with another week of 90’s.

Back in the day when I lived in Alpena we kept a jacket in the car all summer as on many a summer night the temperature would drop like a rock after sundown. And there was always the shift to a NE wind that could cause the temperature to drop even in the daytime.

Meanwhile, back to the weather……

Just returned from taking the dog for a walk. Picture perfect morning. 60 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Saw a young buck, showing his antlers in velvet already. Other than the lack of storms, which we have had several but not many, it has been a great summer so far. My sis-in-law and her family are camping at Petoskey State Park. She said they saw a bunch of meteors last night.

I agree that this has been a great summer so far. Most years Michigan has nice weather in the summer time.

So about the Sweden article Rocky posted yesterday, we won’t know until at least the end of the year who got it right or wrong. Sweden has a population identical to Michigan, yet has 20% less Covid19 deaths than Michigan. Population immunity population rates in humans is only a theory, because we’ve never before checked immunity antibody rates before. And we don’t know enough about people who may already have coronavirus immunities from the last 2 pandemics. My bet is that Michigan will by December have double the Covid19 deaths of Sweden. That was definitely an opinion piece which doesn’t… Read more »

You really are reckless and want to see more Americans die! Incredible!

Well 20% more people have died in Michigan than Sweden with Michigan’s strict lockdown orders in place. So apparently the methods that you approve of are more reckless and you want to see more Americans die. If we are comparing deaths in Michigan to deaths in Sweden, being that they are relatively the same population size.

I not sure how many times people have to be told that this is a weather blog and NOT a political blog. If you want to post your political views you should find a site that does that. If one likes to have political views mixed in with their weather then Joe Bastardi would be one site for you.

It seems quiet in the tropics. However I read that Gonzalo is the earliest we have ever reached “G.” I’m assuming then Hanna would be the earliest “H” storm also.
