The storm track has pushed well south of Michigan into the southern plains where the most active pattern is setting up and high pressure will rule the central and northern U.S. through the weekend into early next week. This makes for an exceptionally boring period for weather forecasters who must dig deep for interesting tidbits to fill in the gaps.
I stated yesterday we have chances of a milder weather pattern for the next couple weeks with cold weather possibly returning towards the end of the month, I see WOODTV has jumped on board with the possibility of our polar vortex returning towards the end of the month though Dr. Judah Cohen from AER is thinking the same he is saying it may hold off until mid January setting up a cold snowy pattern for the eastern half of the U.S. for the second half of winter. Whether it gets here on or before Christmas is still up in the air – it would be nice to have a white Christmas but at this point it is to far out to call with any accuracy.
Having lived in the northern Appalachians in the winter it kind of forces you into enjoying the snow and all the activities of the season. There is nothing more beautiful than snowfall in the mountains and the quaint New England villages lit up with Christmas lights and decorations. Snowmobiles and skis are the vehicles of choice and the towns are self sufficient as they are spaced twenty to thirty miles apart.
We will see the snow in the northwestern counties today with an inch or less accumulation. The weekend will feature the sun making a grand appearance and temps will rise above freezing by Sunday – high pressure will control our weather through Tuesday. A more active weather pattern should return by mid week bringing chances of rain and snow.
Remember a strong El Niño can translate into tons of snow for mi! I love it!
Remember this important FACT! A weak El Niño equals a great chance of tons of cold and snow! I love it!
Good thing it’s trending into a strong El Niño!

WINTER is looking good and we will be getting pounded with cold and snow in January! It should be a ROCK n ROLL good time!
Winter is looking good, plenty of ABOVE normal temps and green grass in January & February! El Niño is on the way! Gonna be a fantastic time!
+1
Basically near to slightly above normal temps in the mid range! Who knew?
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/threats/temp_probhazards_d8_14_contours.png
Here are the facts!
1. We are well above seasonal snowfall so far!
2. We are in a solid 2 plus month of below normal temps!
3. December is well below normal for temps so far!
Face the facts and get used to it! It is Winter thank GOD!
Good! A Frontloaded Winter usually means WARMTH AND MELTING for January and February! BRING IT!!
The cold and snow just keeps coming and only mid 30’s for next week! I will be heading up to snow country for some early December skiing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it!
Looking really good coming up!!

Keep posting the facts Andy, looking good.
Heavy snow moving into GR …INDY!
Hey INDY we are getting HAMMERED with SNOW and the warm weather fanatics keep talking about above normal temps!
Yep, a whole trace of snow today. We are getting hammered. LOL !!!
Ehh…leave the wishcasting to WoodTV & Kirkwood!! Him and Underwood always overdo the cold temps and snow! I’ll listen to the more rational Mark T from mlive who always seems to be more spot on! Kirkwood & Underwood should just move to Barrow, Alaska already so that they can have their year round winter that they love. El Niño is strengthening!! That will destroy and Polar Vortex!
https://www.mlive.com/weather/2018/12/ocean-waters-warming-rapidly-el-nino-coming-soon.html
I will be able to tell how quiet the blog gets before looking at air temps down the road when it gets cold again lol. Great weekend ahead Andy lots of good football on and sprites our way my friend enjoy..INDY!!
Yes sir INDY! We shall see how this wild winter plays out! El Niño vs Polar Vortex! Should be a great battle with fun weather, thunderstorms and snow, a little something for everyone! Have a great weekend INDY!!
Mark T is always way off! He has an extreme warm weather bias so I can see why you would think he is accurate! Give me a break!
He’s even said in his commentaries he prefers cold and snow in the winter. So, he just tells it like it is! Kirkwood and Underwood are always cheering and hoping for cold and snow when none is in sight. I’d prefer Mark T who gives the facts rather than Kirkwood’s wishcasting!
With the cooler November, Lake Michigan has also become cooler which translates to far less lake effect snow this year compared to years past. Last year the lake was warmer going into December, and we had some decent lake effect. This year since it’s been colder for a while, and the lake effect has been almost non-existent.
Wood tv 8 has a high of 40* and then on next Saturday rain changing to snow interesting…next week souch a big warm up but then again it’s only 25* today lol! INDY!
A polar vortex with clipper snow, lake enhanced snow or synoptic snow is my favorite weather event! I can’t wait!
Just another typical below normal temp day with SNOW! What a pattern! Things are shaping up for a great winter sports season!
No worries…we should be able to string together 2-3 months of “above average temps” once again in 2020…right around the corner.
Fox news talking about a big warm up but in there 8 day forecast shows the warmest day 39* degrees and that’s next Friday lol ..INDY!
Some mookie clones!
Polar Vortex coming …Who would of thought!! INDY!!
INCREDIBLE!
I will put up my Saturday post this week but will Not have the internet next week.

Greetings from Fort Lauderdale, FL the sun is out, the sky is blue the grass is green and the reported temperature is 66° The high here today should be around 77° Last night on the TV weather here the news was last night was much warmer than the night before when the temperature dropped down to 54° and in the ten day the word Cold was used for Tue night with a low of 52°
On the way down here it was cold all the way into northern Florida there was snow in Charleston WV and it snowed thru all of the mountains even into North Carolina. But the roads were just wet.

Slim glad your back we need the facts on here .. running out of room lol! I’m glad you made it safe …INDY!!
The so called warm up coming which some has been saying since the end of October on here will not be that impressive may see some high 40’s with 30’s at night and with being in the middle of the storm track we could get snow at anytime for a white Christmas!! Yes wood tv 8 said yesterday “Matt k” right around Christmas or after a polar vortex is setting up with very cold temps for January and February with lots of lk effect snow around the great lks I would not count on Winter being over yet with this little warm up coming..Have a great weekend!! INDY!!
You know what they say about the boy who cried wolf right?

“Some thoughts coming next week around Tuesday a big storm coming it will open the flood gates up for artic air Rocky Slim MV thoughts? …All of December looks below normal and above normal in snowfall this could be one December to remember get some more wood cutt! IWS is tracking it all stay tuned… INDYSTORM!”
Come back from vacation because it’s going to hit 40* degrees what a way to flex your little muscle’s or should I say little post lol! INDY!
Last December GR received 32.9″ of snow. This year, we will be lucky to get 10% of that.
What a difference El Nino makes! The only hope for snow lovers is for another short back-loaded winter this year when El Nino starts to dissipate.
I respected meteorology more when a regular cold front in winter wasn’t sensationalized with the words “polar vortex” and when winter storms weren’t given names like hurricanes.
The polar vortex was first described as early as 1853. The phenomenon’s sudden stratospheric warming develops during the winter in the Northern Hemisphere and was discovered in 1952 with radiosonde observations at altitudes higher than 20 km.
The phenomenon was mentioned frequently in the news and weather media in the cold North American winter of 2013–2014, popularizing the term as an explanation of very cold temperatures.
Great post Michael 1853 the first polar Vortex not yesterday lol!! Who would of thought!! INDY!!
I will agree with Mookie that 1. not all winter storms should be given names. 2. All cold spells be called “polar vortex” BUT I will add that ever time it reaches 85 or so it is NOT a “Heat Wave”
I see Mookie survived the cold November
Slim
The polar vortex and a lot of winter weather in Jan, feb and March. Who knew! The below normal temps just keep Coming! I love it!
