The feature image is a screen shot of the South haven GLERL webcam from yesterday – not a good day to go to the beach for sure…
Traveling about the Otsego/Plainwell area I haven’t seen a lot of color beyond yellow and brown with the exception of a few maple trees with hints of orange and red. Most of the leaves are on the ground ready to be raked or mulched (I prefer to mulch or compost them). I dislike burning them because the smoke chokes out the whole neighborhood. Living in a valley surrounded by woods tends to hold the smoke and cause it to spread out so everyone gets to feel the effects.
My wife has all of her Halloween decorations out inside and out. She is great about decorating for each of the holidays – I am the lucky one who gets to climb the ladders outside to put up the Christmas lights, with the exception of that it is all her. She is a very festive person.
We have some lake effect rain and drizzle in the area this morning mainly along the U.S.131 corridor between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. Temperatures are around 40° at 6:30am and we will struggle to the mid 40s today. We will continue in this pattern of 40s and 50s through most of next week.
We will continue to see light drizzle throughout the day into tonight and again Saturday into Sunday night. We have a chance of frost overnight tonight especially east of U.S. 131 with temps dipping to near or below freezing. If you have any tomatoes or other veggies still producing you will want to cover them up. We still have a lot of green tomatoes waiting to turn red. We don’t like fried green tomatoes so we will get them covered and hope for the best.

WARM air returns end of October and thru February! Enjoy the short lived cool dry air!
Looks like Rocky’s going to be running the wheels off his car again driving back and forth from the North Pole for his weekly ski trips!
Well after 5 and a half months of Summer, it finally feels like Fall. Now we just need Fall to last 5 and a half months as well, and next thing you know it’s April!
I like that thought.
Wind chill Frost temps 15 to 20 below average furnace cranking mid October need I post more …Have a great football Friday bloggers .. INDY!!
There is some color here in my area not a lot but some and there are also some leaves falling. With it being so wet and warm the leaves will be late to fall. The best weather for color is sunny days and clear cool nights. We have not had that this year. The current temp here in 41° with on and off sprinkles.
Slim
It’s funny how yesterday was perfectly average and yet it was so cold to some.
It’s also funny that yesterdays high was at midnight and during the day time the temperatures were only in the 40’s but hey in the record books the high/low for the day will be 62/43. BTW the latest temperature at GRR of 40° is the coldest it has been there so far this month. The average first sub 40 (39) day at Grand Rapids is September 24th and the range is from August 30th 1976 to October 25, 2017. The first sub 40 date has been late several times in the with it being at least Oct 12 this year, Oct 25 last year, Oct 10 in 2016 and 2015 and October 9 in 2014.
Slim
