A comfortable 52° here in Otsego this morning at 6am, can’t beat that for the closing days of December. Don’t expect it to last long as the temps on the western side of the system are in the single digits to teens in Minnesota. Grand Rapids Minnesota is expecting a high of 10° with wind chills of -9 today as the low pressure system pulls in some cold air out of Canada.
Another system has dropped into New Mexico where there are blizzard warnings in place for several inches of snow and winds up to 60mph, sad to say they will have more snow on the ground today than southwest Michigan. New England had multiple advisories for rain, ice and snow.
We are experiencing a more active weather pattern across the U.S. than we have had over most of the month and we have reached the point where we may actually see some winter weather in our area. Rain should change to scattered snow showers tonight when temps fall below freezing. Our 50° temps will fall into the mid to upper 30s by 6pm and into the 20s by Saturday morning.
We are still only expecting only an inch or less of snow through the weekend – at this point Sunday appears to be a good chance to see some sun – the next system will bring in chances of more rain Sunday night changing back to snow through New Years Day. We may actually see several inches of snow starting Monday and lasting into Wednesday especially in the favored lake effect snow belts.
Enjoy the warmth this morning of unseasonable temps, it will not last for long….
C’mon Blue!!
It’s too bad Mark, guess the starters not playing was too much to overcome.
54° yesterday morning and now a dusting of snow this morning. Pure Michigan.
It sure is a lot colder tonight than it was last night at the same time.
Less than 3 months!! Come on Spring!!!

Mookie is right, not seeing the Kirkwood arctic air anywhere?? Just more wishcasting on his part!
berry went to work in shorts today hopefully he brought a winter coat with him lol! INDY!
I have worn shorts to work every day since the last big snowstorm we had in 2011. It’s always hot where I work. Nice try little one.

Enjoy your final few hours of an easy December. The winter we all recognize is nearly here. Don’t bother hoping for it to take it easy on us…100 straight days, non-stop, cold on cold, snow on snow. Fingers crossed, hoping all of us make it thtough.
Since the Government shutdown, ive been getting this on the NOAA GFS model page .. Is there another place to obtain the GFS model ? http://prntscr.com/m0r1xk ..
What i liked about this page it gave you an animated look.
To correct Slim, the average temp (high and low) from January 9th to Feb 1st is 24 degrees. On February 2nd, this average rises to 25. So you can see, the coldest temps are around January 20th for GR.
The snow drought is still in full gear !!!! We are and still and will be BELOW normal for snowfall well into January..
Only 62 days till Spring! Love these short snowless Winters. No snow to blow/shovel, cheap heat bills after the outrageous AC bills we had this year, and great weather to work outside in the yard.
Rain showers changing to snow showers in GR…Let it snow let it snow let it snow!! INDY!
18th day in a row above average, what an incredible run again. Do we break the # of days we had back in August? Incredible!
Matt Kirkwood just said warm weather fans December was your month January will be cold and snowier ..The 3 week thaw is over! INDY!
Of course he was also saying in November that we would have more snow than average in December. We only need 20 some inches of snow in the next 3 days for that to happen.
Oh we oh oh oh oh we oh the 3 week thaw is dead …. Oh we oh ohhhh lol! INDY!
Sorry. 4 of the next 6 days are well above freezing, around 40 degrees. Try again.

And Kirkwood is just as bad as Rocky, he’s always talking about some snowstorm weeks out that never materializes! Kirkwood, the professional wishcaster!
The same guy who said 90” or more this winter? Lol
Just like in 2 weeks our temps start going up …Lol! INDY!
In less than four weeks, temps start rising
Temps falling fast 39* degrees with a brisk wind baby it’s cold outside..Out at thee YARDofBRICKS!! INDY!
Todays official high at Grand Rapids will be 53° That will make today the warmest it has been at Grand Rapids since October 31st when the high was 57° This will be the 5th warmest December 28th (for the high) in Grand Rapids history. At this point the mean at Grand Rapids is 32.4° (+2.8) and there has been just 2.4” of snow fall at this time Grand Rapids is in 4th place for the least amount of December snow fall. It is looking like Grand Rapids will end up this winter with less then 70” of snow and depending on how January ends up we could end up with less then 60” with even less then 50” not out of the question.
Slim
Any snow storm or Blizzard could bring our snow totals up in January not out of question! INDY!
And any continued lack of storms could leave our meager snow totals near record lows!
Just the warm facts!
What happened to winter?! Only a couple more weeks before temps start rising and average snowfall starts really dropping.
In 7 more weeks the average will start rising the date for that is February 14th
Slim
Coldest temps generally are around January 20th in Michigan.
Thanks slim! 7 weeks long ways away! INDY!
See post above

Most people who enjoy following weather root for top 5, top 10 events. Being able to experience it and watch it unfold is what makes weather interesting. Why root against it and hope for the same ole mundain? As dry as the outlooks are looking for January, I would not be surprised if we have a low snow total in January as well.
My mom is in Arizona visiting relatives. She said it’s colder there than here. They’ve had freeze warnings.
Pretty crazy when the average night time temp is supposed to be 20 and I go to work at 4:30 this morning and it’s 55 out! A full 35 degrees warmer than it should be!!! Incredible!
Doesnt seem like December this year with the lack of snow we had all month.. More below normal snowfall in the near future ..
