Again, not much going on in the weather today and is the case over much of the U.S.. I am glad I don’t have to produce forecasts for the 3007 counties in our country (there is a bit of trivia for you). Of course this is not abnormal to have an extended period of summer-like weather in September and we tend to look at it as a gift knowing it is not going to last forever.
I do like rainy crappy days when I can do my indoor hobbies. After rebuilding my deck I need to redo the outdoor solar lighting which I run off 12 volts solar panels and a deep cycle battery. I also recently purchased a couple antique short wave tube radios I need to rebuild. I have had short wave radios for over 40 years, my first was a Heathkit and I worked my way up to a Grundig which is supposedly top of the line.
If you have every opened up electronics built before 1970 you will find there are no circuit boards, everything is hard wired together which is easier to fix (photo below). Now days electronics like everything else is throw away and buy a new one.
The forecast remains the same – lots of sun and warm temps through the rest of the week – 80s south and upper 70s north. Above normal temps will be with us through the end of the month. If you want some cool weather you need to go to northern Maine where there are frost advisories in place and temps will drop into the 20s tonight. As some of you know I used to live in central Maine where I learned all about harsh winters.
So, enjoy it while we have it – you all know it is not going to last forever, all good things must come to an end.
For some reason, I will never forget that there are 3,007 counties in the US. Thanks for that.
By the way 71* degrees now out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR went down a degree crazzy considerate a off day from the NWS ….Who would of thought ?? iNDY
75 here, just about what they said it would be.
Yeaaa the breeze actually makes a few cooler outside very nice …INDY
What? The high in GR today was a whopping 70 degrees! Incredible but that temp in well below the normal high! I love it!
79 degrees at 3pm all the way up in Houghton. Those Yoopers must be going crazy with this heat wave haha
Amazing but no 80’s today even hundreds of miles away …..NWS was a little off there rockers again what’s new!! INDY
80’s, it struggled to even make 70 degrees in GR! Who would have thought?
72* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR im thinking 80* degrees is going to be hard to push today like they are calling for getting late in the day and it’s breezy outside….Have a super Tuesday …INDY
Just another above average day to add to the streak.
Yes I will take 72* degrees over 80* degrees any day of the week who needs 80*s …INDY
Based on the 14 day outlooks, it appears the remainder of the month will continue to be “warm”. Keep in mind that 70 degrees is technically above-average for September 24th onward, so even highs around 70 would still be considered warm beginning next week.
The past 2 years were very warm in late September as well. I have noticed a trend recently where summers and winters have been lingering later into the year. The past couple of springs have also been awfully cold (remember the cold blast in March, snow around April 14th, and the late growing season). It appears this will be another year with a late summer… let’s hope this trend does not continue for next spring!
Yes it does seem September’s recently have held on to Summer way longer than I remember before. For years we would go to my dads cottage on Labor Day and it was like someone threw the switch and it was cool from then on. The past several Winters have started very slow as well. Last Winter December and two thirds of January we were measuring snow by the tenth and set a record for least amount of snow for the first 50 days of Met Winter.
Grand Rapids has had 4 warmer than average Septembers in a row, At this time this year is +0.8° and looks to be above average so this could be the 5th in a row. 3 of the last 4 Octobers have been warmer than average and for November and December it has been 2 of the last 4. But then again it has been warmer then average for the last 4 years. This year it is too early to tell at this time.

It’s amazing how fast you can pull stats together on things! Always interesting ones to, great job Slim!
Wow certainly explains why the fall colors have been lingering later into the season.
As stated by Mookie the H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 80/62. The overnight low here at my house was 59 and at GRR is looks like it will be 58. For today the average H/L at Grand Rapids is 73/52. The record high is 92 set in 1906 and the record low is 37 set in 1959. The warmest minimum is 69 set in 1942 and the record coldest maximum is 47 set in 1973. Last year the H/L was a hot 90/62 that 90° high last year was the 3rd highest for September 17th at GRR with just the record of 92 in 1906 and 91 in 1955 being warmer. BTW if it makes it into the mid 80’s on Friday it would be a top 15 for that date we shall see.

Even though the latest fall foliage report shows only low color in the eastern UP, here in my area there is now some color on some of the trees. Here is a link to that color report site.

Summer just keeps rolling on! I was surprised GR hit 80 degrees yesterday. NWS had said we weren’t going to hit 80 until Wednesday. Looks like we may not get any fall-like weather until sometime October.
Great Scotty just like Summer never got cranking to the end of June this year remember but lows in the mid 50’s at night sure feel good don’t they ..INDY
By the way welcome back to the blogg ..INDY
