My generator was unused yesterday which is surprising with the winds we had yesterday. Tree crews went through Otsego last summer to clear the power lines of tree limbs – M89 lost a lot of shade through the city however we haven’t had a power outage since. North of Otsego along 16th street has lost power affecting a couple hundred people. Currently there are around 49000 without power in Michigan. Here is the current outage map.
All of the warnings have expired in south Michigan – winter weather advisories are in place for the northern counties for snow and blowing snow – there are some areas where the roads are impassable due to snow drifts.
Don’t put away the shovels and snowblowers yet. This will be an active week for snow with two systems making their presence know. We may see light accumulations tonight in the order of an inch or so. The next system may bring in another 3 to 6 inches into the area Tuesday night into Wednesday, then another system is on track for the weekend which will bring more snow and temps dropping into the teens to single digits.
We currently have some light snow falling with a temp of 16° at 7:30am here in Otsego.
You have probably noticed the weather ticker on the site – for now this will only include advisories and warnings. If I had some night owls working here I would be able to have overnight updates – for now they will only be updated between 7am and 10pm.
I have also added Skywarn info to the site for those of you who can’t get out to the annual meeting – this part is a work in progress so check the pages for updates.

BRING ON SPRING!!
Here is the latest GFS 5 day snow map! Looks promising!
http://wxcaster.com/gis-gfs-snow-overlays2.php?STATIONID=GRR
Looks awful! Just like this season mostly is! Bring on spring, so we can enjoy outdoors again!
Is it necessary to post the same map four times in one day?
I don’t think so! That map also WAY overdoes the snowfall amounts, so it’s a fake map anyway that provides zero real data.
Yes the Map changes 4 times per day and I give the update as needed!
All of this whining and complaining about winter is pathetic! Embrace winter and enjoy! I will be skiing this weekend and no it wil not be too cold. Just dress for the weather and get outside baby! I am also planning another ski trip to snow country the end of next week! Nothing could be better!
I might head to the Home & Garden Show to enjoy all the flowers. 🙂
It’s like a dose of sunshine!
Sounds like a great idea Sandy! My wife would probably like that too!
Even Dr Cohen laughs about the RIDICULOUS snowfall maps and he’s a professional that loves snow! LOLOLOL!!! 10 inches of snow in the Florida Panhandle! Too hilarious!!!

WILX tv 10 out of Lansing has 4.8″ for this mid week snowfall. Ugg
Storm track is looking good for Tuesday night into Wednesday for 3-6 inches of snow coming winter weather advisory’s this evening would not surprise me …INDY..
Definitely a high end advisory! Bring it and keep the snow rocking till April!!!
Powers back on! They didn’t even replace the snapped poles, just reconnected lines and turned them back on. We have live power lines hanging about 5 feet from the ground!
Dang Barry, glad your power is back up.. Sounds like you had a rough time.
What a drag. I’m glad you have a wood burner and a generator.
No more snow pleeeease .Lol !!
GR is currently warmer than average for February! Who knew? Obviously, we’ll end slightly below but still found that fascinating.
Silghtly warmer with above snowfall!! Only 15* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE. GR pretty cold today snowy month if you ask me.. INDY…
Actually for the meteorological Winter, GR is below normal for snowfall by about 5 inches:

Looks about right. That map usually show double of what we usually get. One local met here said it looks like the event tomorrow night will be 2-4″ widespread with a few areas with a little more.
I’m gonna say 2 inches for my area. No complaints 🙂
The high warm sun has melted what little snow was on the roads this morning. It’s a beautiful day!
Power still out, but the crews have finally started working on the lines. We never really received much snow, inch or two at best. All schools around here are open today. One thing with school closings, there have been a lot this year, but not that many years ago they would rarely close. Nowadays they close because of liability issues, but before they were almost always open. Schools didn’t close then for every 2 inches of snow we would get, so it’s hard to compare.
Hey slim I realize you are the weather stat guru, however what about school closings in Kent county? This has to be a record breaking winter for the most school closings! Some of the Kent county schools have missed 14 days and counting! Even with the blizzards in the 60’s and 70’s they had no where near that many closing! What an incredible winter we are having! Record breaking events keep coming!
This will be the most costly Winter in GR history when it’s all said and done past winter seasons will not even come close….INDY!
Yes and just think we still have a month left for more snow and ice!
Not sure who keeps records on school closings. But there has been a lot this winter. In the past rural schools would close more often then city schools. My guess this year is one of on the higher school closing years. Back when I went the school the most days was in 1967 when school was closed for just over a week but we were snowed in for 5 days and the city used back hoes to clear the streets.I was a adult in the 1978 storm and I did not have work for 3 days. In recent years I would look at 2013/17, 2007/08 and 2008/09.

Rock on Indy!
Roads are completely ice not fun driving this morning 13 days now this winter with no school can’t ever remember that many record setting, Winter weather advisory’s coming for Tuesday’s winter storm and probably winter storm watches Friday’s winter storm one has to wonder really how much official snow depp GR is missing this year with all the blowing snow going on… currently snow falling out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE Grand Rapids temp 13* you think it’s December not The end of February..stay warm INDY..
Just had a heavy snow shower here. It is had to get a good snow fall measurement for yesterday but will use 1.5” One thing I have noticed the past few days is the difference of the old snow on the ground here at my house compared to the south side of Grand Rapids. Here I there is still a good 3 to 4 inches of very hard packed old snow on the ground while on the south side that is not the case. I have a current temperature of 14 with some light snow and blowing snow at this time
