Spring has sprung in southwest Michigan with dry, warm conditions that will prevail this week. Highs in the 60s today will climb to the mid-70s by mid-week. The immediate lakeshore locations will experience lower temperatures given their proximity to the colder waters of Lake Michigan.
U.S.A and Global Events for April 10th:
1935: Severe dust storms across Iowa and Kansas closed schools and highways. Dodge City, Kansas experienced its worst dust storm of record, with dense dust reported from the morning of the 9th until after sunset on the 11th. The sky was almost as dark as night at times during the daylight hours. The thick dust suspended traffic on highways and railroads and also suspended most businesses in town.
1979: This day was known as “Terrible Tuesday” to the residents of Wichita Falls, Texas as a tornado rated F4 on the Fujita scale ripped through the city. A massive F4 tornado smashed into Wichita Falls killing 43 persons and causing 300 million dollars in damage. Another tornado struck Vernon, Texas killing eleven persons.

Forecast Discussion
- Dry, Warm, and Breezy Period Early to Mid Week Dry and warm conditions continue today. GOES-E IR satellite imagery this morning shows mid and high level clouds across Wisconsin. GFS RH layer analysis as well as the HREF guidance indicates mid to high level cloud cover is likely across our region this morning into at least mid afternoon before clearing out. Similar high temperatures to yesterday are expected. Winds will be on the increase Tuesday and Wednesday as isobars tighten across the Great Lakes courtesy of a building surface high across the SE U.S. and surface troughing across the Upper Midwest, with Michigan in between. Wednesday looks like the windiest day with widespread gusts in the 30-40 mph range. - Warmest Temperatures Late in the Week Mid to upper 70s will be the rule Wednesday into Friday. Can`t rule out 80 degrees in places. While little model guidance is actually showing 80 degrees being achieved, often in these anomalous early season events where upper heights and 850 mb temperatures are well above normal, the climatology bias in medium range model forecasts can drag down temperatures lower than what will actually take place. So, plan on 70s but don`t be surprised if some places get to 80. - Rain Potential By The Weekend With a Pattern Change Coming A pattern shift is looking more likely for this coming weekend into early next week. The upper high responsible for warm and dry conditions across our region this week will begin migrating east over the Atlantic Ocean by the weekend and upper troughing across the Pacific Northwest early this week will progress eastward toward the Great Lakes, per 00z GEFS 500 mb heights forecast. As this feature approaches, low level flow will advect moisture into our region by Saturday. Some showers and thunderstorms are possible at that time. Ensemble guidance does indicate the potential for upper low development late in the weekend with much colder temperatures later Sunday into Monday. As a result, it is plausible that we would be in a chilly and showery pattern during that period with below normal temperatures by Monday.
The latest CPC shows extended cold will be returning next week! Get ready!
Lol….cold….one day in the upper 40’s…

Temporary, accidental warming. Our routine below normal, cold weather is racing back to the Southern Arctic, as we speak. Keep the snow blowers and heavy coats close at hand.
Good advice and our cool pattern is temporarily being interrupted with a warm week! Stay tuned!
Is that how you describe 11 warm months in a row? LOL
Enjoy the warm week because it will NOT last! Signs of a major cold front and below normal temps next week! Who knows, maybe more SNOW! Incredible!
Arrived home from Mississippi yesterday. Visited the sites of the EF-4 in Rolling Fork and Silver City as well as the EF-3 that hit Wynne, Arkansas. I’ve never seen anything like what I saw there. Incredibly heartbreaking. Keep those people in your prayers.
Good morning, friends. We returned home from vacation late afternoon yesterday. We spent eight days in Florida and we could not have asked for better weather. It was summer-like. Sunny and each day was 90 to 92. It was a spectacular vacation.
Can’t ask for much nicer weather here for this week. It’s time to get the mower ready for the season.
Have a great day, and make someone smile. 😃
I have the plow and mounts off my tractor – all ready to put the mower deck back on!
90 to 92 degrees is way too hot! Give me winter over those temps any day!
What a glorious week this is. A long summer preview in early April!
I am loving this sunshine! High 70s is a bit too warm for me in early spring, but it’s always nice having the house open.
The average H/L for today is 55/35 the record high of 85 was set in 2011 and the record low of 15 was set in 1989. As we settle down on the snow fall the record for today is 2” set way back in 1894 there was 1” reported in 1961 all other snow fall reports for today are under one inch. Last year the high was 58 after a cold low of 24.

This week looks to be a very warm mid April week with highs in the 70’s and in spots there could be a 80 or so. But summer is NOT here yet as next week looks to cool down to near or below average.

Yesterday was a mild Easter Sunday with the official H/L of 66/34 at Grand Rapids. There was no rain fall and the day had 89% of possible sunshine. The overnight low here in MBY so far is 35 looks like the official low was a much warmer 43 and the current official temperature is also much warmer at 46
