We are coming upon the time of year when one would think that our first frost was imminent however we will not see that happening this week or next week for that matter. We will continue to see temps in the 70s this week into next week.
For you winter enthusiasts, Accuweather has come out with their winter forecast predicting a cold and snowy winter. They are guessing 125 to 150% above normal snowfall much of it coming from lake effect which we haven’t seen much of the past couple of winters. Looking at past predictions we will have to wait and see about this…
Yesterday’s high temp was 74° and the low a warm 65°. We had .30 of an inch of rain.
So far today we have had .62 of an inch of rain as we close in on our first inch for the month.
We will continue to see showers today as a low-pressure system rotates over the state.
Forecast Discussion
- Heavy Rain Threat Ends This Morning Heavy rain persists early this morning as slow moving showers pivot around a broad low pressure system centered over the MI/IN border. MRMS indicates most areas have gotten up to around 0.25 to 1 inch of rain so far, with some very localized spots having gotten up to 3 to 4 inches, particularly near Kalamazoo and just west of Mount Pleasant. This low pressure system will continue to drift across the area through early this morning before sliding southeast this afternoon and evening helping gradually taper off our rain showers into tonight. Meanwhile low clouds can be expected to stick around today with a fairly cloudy and dreary day expected. - More Rain Wednesday night into Friday Dry conditions will return Tuesday and much of Wednesday as an upper level blocking pattern develops across the eastern part of the country. By Wednesday night, a closed upper low to our south will merge with an oncoming Pacific system and slowly move north into the Great Lakes region. This will result in periodic chances for rain showers and perhaps a few storms Wednesday night through Friday. More rain may be possible into the weekend as a cold front approaches from the northwest. - Warmer than Normal Temperatures Continue Not much change in temperature is expected this week despite the gradual cooler temperatures typical for this time of year. 850mb temperatures will stay in the 10 to 15C range allowing for our highs to warm into the 70s for the foreseeable week.

Rock n roll and bring on the snow!
I personally think October is the best time of the year for warm temperatures. It doesn’t negatively affect the farmers like in early spring (2012 for example) and the temperatures are really comfortable in the 70s.
Also I have noticed most of the cold air has been situated over Siberia and not over Canada thus far. That could change quickly… but so far no signs of cold and snow through much of October.
We are due for a cold/snowy winter.
We received a boatload of rain this morning. Flood advisories near by for 4+” of rain overnight.
One more thing: I saw a C17 Globemaster fly overhead Saturday on final approach into Capital City Airport. Not a common sight, and it was so very cool. It was delivering The Beast. President Biden is flying in tomorrow and will speak in Howell.
Phew, almost +10 degrees above average to start October so far with more warmth to go!
Another very mild and humid night last night. The past couple days the low temp has been almost 20 degrees above average. AC has been on since April.
