Yesterday we reached 70° after a morning low of 41.5°. Today we will start off the day with mostly sunny skies then the clouds will move in beginning the start of a wet pattern over the next few days. Forecast Discussion
- Warmth Ahead of Next System - Temperatures will be warmer than normal today as southerly winds become breezy ahead of our next system approaching from the southwest. Highs in the low 70s can be expected with increasing clouds into the afternoon. Southerly winds will peak this afternoon, gusting up to 20-25 mph for most areas and to 30 mph or higher for areas along the lakeshore. - Rain Arrives This Evening and Wet Pattern Ends the Week- Low level warm air and moisture advection will strengthen this afternoon and evening as a 40-50 knot LLJ takes aim at lower MI. Gulf moisture will enhance rain shower chances late this afternoon and evening along the nose of this LLJ with showers filling in from the southwest. A few storms will be possible with these showers as mid-level lapse rates increase towards 6.5-7 C/km. Warm advection showers will persist tonight into Wednesday with a lull in activity by mid-late Wednesday morning. Additional shower and storm activity is expected Wednesday afternoon and evening as the approaching trough and its associated cold front arrives. In addition to shower and storm activity, southerly winds will be strong for the first half of the day Wednesday. Gusts up to 30-35 mph are expected across the area, with some gusts up to 40-45 mph possible. Much of the heavy rain showers will exit east late Wednesday into Thursday morning. A secondary cold front will move through Thursday morning with noticeably cooler temperatures starting Thursday and lasting to the end of the week. While most areas should stay dry, some lake enhanced rain showers will begin Thursday morning as cool 850mb temps flow over the more mild waters of Lake Michigan. This pattern will continue into the end of the week as we remain under the influence of an upper level trough. Long range ensembles continue to suggest cooler than normal temperatures into the early part of next week.

Yesterday was yet another great early October day. The official H/L at Grand Rapids was 67/36 there was no rain fall and so far, there has only been a trace the month. There was 89% of possible sunshine. The overnight low and current temperature here in MBY is 39. The official low at GRR is a warmer 43 and their current temperature is 43. For today the average H/L is 63/44 the record high of 85 was set in 1928 and the record low of 25 was set in 1906. Last year the H/L was 80/63 there was 0.70” of rain fall. That high of 80 was the last day of 80 or better in 2021. There was a total of 84 days of 80 or better in 2021. This year there will be a total of 85 days of 80 or better. The average number of days is 71 the most is 96 in 2012 and the least is 36 in 1924. There is a chance that today could be the last day of 70 or better in 2022. If today makes it to 70 or better it will be the 130 day this year the average number of days of 70 or better at Grand Rapids is 133 the record is 163 in 1900 and the least is 102 in 1907.
