First of all – happy birthday to my lovely wife and SS, have a great day!
We will have a warm but windy day today with temps near 50° and some rain late. South winds will gust to near 40 mph. As we move through tonight and early tomorrow morning drastic, chilling changes are on the way as temps drop into the 20s for daytime highs. We will have a winter weather advisory moving into place beginning at 4 am tomorrow lasting through 7 pm Christmas day.
At this time I am not overly excited about the snowfall amounts which may only be two or three inches in the advisory areas. We will start out with a west/southwest wind off the lake which will push the lake effect snow for a time inland to Grand Rapids before turning from the northwest aligning the snow belt along the lakeshore counties which would be along and south of the M40/M89 corridor which would be Holland, Allegan to Kalamazoo. Of course, a few degrees of change in wind direction can determine how far inland the snow bands will move. Areas along the lakeshore should have a white Christmas!
Another big hype and 1-2 inches for Grand Rapids, whoa!! Snow plowing in Grand Rapids is almost a thing of the past,
I don’t care who u are!!! Cheers!!!
3 Big Winter Storm systems in 10 days a coming helooo Winter and Just in a matter of a few hours the snow drought will be over PARTY ….INDY..
Get ready, wind chills in the single digits are on the way and wind and low visibility’s!
While it is 54 here at my house the last official reading at GRR looks to have been 52. Even that 52 would make this the 4th warmest December 23 of record here at GR. 54 would make it 3rd warmest of record. The record is 60 set in 2015. The sun was ut for a short while but the sky is now very dark tot he west.

The sun has now came out and the temperate is now up to 54 and it has became rather windy as well.

50 degrees here and a fly flew into the house when I returned from getting the mail. Hilarious.
50 degrees and rain… is this spring??
Temps in the 20’s on Christmas, right about average. Current temp of 53 degrees, 20 degrees above average. Wow!
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY GREAT SCOTTY!! GET TO THE STORE AND GRAB MORE FOLKS MERRY WHITE CHRISTMAS!! INDY ..
8AM tomorrow: 24 degrees with a strong WSW wind. As long as the other elements are in play, this sounds like a good recipe for snow in GR tomorrow morning.
You know it!
BRING IT!! INDY
Get ready, the storm is still looking good esp near the lakeshore! Incredible!
As usual the naysayers are out already and the event has not even happened yet!
As usual, the two snow nuts are out already. What was promised as being a “big snowstorm for GR” is now just a light lake effect event.
The winter storm event is looking great, especially the closer you get to the lakeshore! Incredible!
Close to ZERO wind chills starting tomorrow! wow!
Happy Mrs. VanLent and SS! I hope you have a wonderful day.
I just hope for white Christmas. Is that too much to ask?
I was able to see the “Christmas Star” last night. It was one bright dot to the naked eye. With binoculars, you could see Saturn just to the right of Jupiter. I was able to a pic at full zoom with the iPhone and both were visible. So cool.
It was kind of underwhelming to me. Jupiter was bright but Saturn was dim. As such, it looked just like a normal planet in the sky. But I was able to take an iPhone photo showing the two.
Thank you, Mark. Hope you are all feeling better….
Thank you, SS. Getting better/stronger with each passing day. 😷
Close to 50 degrees today? Almost two feet below average snow? Wow!
The so-called “winter storm” keeps getting downgraded. Euro and GFS now show GR getting only 0.5-1.5″. As usual, WOOD hyped this one up 7-10 days ago when some models were showing GR could get over a foot of snow. Whoops!
Very mild morning for late December, temp up to 42 here. Doesn’t look like much snow unless you’re South of Holland, but just a minuscule half of an inch will double our season total.
At this time I am not real impressed with the set up for this lake effect event. We shall see if can happen for a white Christmas in our area. The current temperature here at my house is now 40 with mostly cloudy skies. The current mean for December at Grand Rapids is 33.3 and that is +3.0 above average. The total snow fall for December is just a trace and for the season it is just 0.4″ and that is now more than 22″ below average at this point.

First off a Happy Birthday wish for you wife MV

The lakeshore areas are looking fantastic for SNOW! How much of this snow actually makes into GR is a little uncertain but hopefully enough for a white Christmas! Great call by Indy for at least a WWA being issued! Bring it!
I will take any accumulation at this point. And we have another storm coming early next week… winter is finally here!
I extend birthday wishes as well, even though I have never met either of you lol!
I am very excited to see today’s forecast, especially since there will likely be fewer people traveling to relatives houses this year…
Thank you, Bernie.
We are headed for a wild, wild winter ! The storm track is headed right at us for the next month or so! Incredible!

Am I reading that right? Does that say six inches of snow by February 6, 2021? I guess I mean is what does the date February 6, 2021 represent?
Perhaps it is a 45 day outlook?
Hey Mark,
This map shows the expected water equivalent of precipitation through February 6th, so if all of precip during time frame was all snow at a typical 10:1 ratio that would mean 60 to 72 inches of SNOW! Bring it on!
Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.
Nothing better than a WWA on Christmas Eve! I am sure the usual naysayers will complain about the WWA and say no big deal and complain about cold and snow! Some things will never change including the fact the Rock n Roll will never die baby! Bring it!
Thanks MV… Happy Birthday to your wife!!!
