Tornadoes & the Virus

Adding insult to injury my worse fear has come to the surface.  As we are supposed to be locked in our homes due to the virus now bad weather comes into the picture.

A tornado moved through Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Saturday. According to the National Weather Service, the tornado made its way through the city around 5:20 p.m. knocking out power to 20000 homes.  Six were injured with no deaths reported.  There were at least 17 tornadoes Sat./Sat. night in at least five states (IL, IA, MO, AR, WI).

This is the daily Covid map from the Times.  It appears the whole U.S. has a bad case of the measles especially east of the Mississippi River.

This is the data for Michigan as of yesterday, I won’t be surprised to see it take another big jump when today’s data comes out.

My wife and I sit outside at times during the day watching the traffic on M89 up the hill from us.  There is a constant flow of cars and we wonder where they are going.  Come on people, we are supposed to stay at home and looking at the map above many are not heeding that advice.

In my childhood, we had to deal with measles, mumps, rubella, polio, scarlet fever and other diseases for which vaccines were developed.  During that time parents would expose their kids to their playmates who had measles just to get it over with.  I can remember lining up at school for vaccinations which were administered with an injection gun and eating the sugar cubes with the polio vaccine.

Those things are nothing compared to what we have to deal with now, so take it seriously when the governor says to stay at home unless you have to go out due to work or groceries.

For the most traffic seems lighter but I have not been anywhere. I know from what my daughter says Meijers is no better. Still out of alot of stuff. It has been a wet windy day today. This morning I had the dog out (on leash) and we stood there with the wind blowing in our hair till a gust almost knocked us over. He is not liking the sound of the wind tonight. This evening I heard from one of my sisters and my bother-n-law is in the hospital. He has aspiration pneumonia. His dr had sent him for… Read more »

OK it’s time for my rant. What was the Florida governor thinking? This past week was their first week with schools closed. Florida still has not issued a stay at home directive. New York is testing more residents daily than Florida has in total. Considering the number of elderly down there, Florida could be a catastrophe. I think there is many of us know someone down there too.

You know it Mark! The Fl governor is ignorant and was in denial about the virus being a big deal! He is costing people their lives! Absolutely horrible!

You know it is times like this that we need leadership. But I am afraid that we as a country are not seeing that national leadership. Instead the leadership we have is more showmanship I am not sure how this is going to play out. But I guess we have to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.

Yes keep washing your hands. Stay as far away from people as you can. Watch Netflix if you have it. Not sure if all plans have it but the plan I have on Comcast they now have free showtime until at least April 19th. And yes by all means do not believe everything you see and or read on the internet. As for fake news. That starts with Fox news and continues to CNN as remember the cable news channels hit the jackpot during the 1st Iraq war and more so during 9/11. It is not fake news it is… Read more »

On the other hand, it’s times like these that bring out the best in people. There is a group in our neighborhood that take turns going to the store for the elderly and immunocompromised. Another lady whose husband is a physician asked if anyone knew where to find Lysol spray. Starting this week, her husband will treating infected individuals. She wants Lysol so he can spray his car, shoes, and whatever else when he gets home. Some offered possibilities where to find it, but what really warmed my heart is that people offered their own private stock. One neighbor said… Read more »

I agree MV. We live by Chicago Drive, and the number of cars going by all day is not much lower than before. With most businesses closed, we ask the same thing, where is everyone going?? Just boggles the mind with how many people just don’t get it. We’ve all had plenty of time to watch it spread through other countries, to learn from their mistakes, but now that it’s here we are failing worse than all of them. Just sad.

Rain wise we ended up with 1.73” of rain total from Friday night through last night.
