We have 34° at 6 am. Yesterday’s high was 38° and the low was 25.5°.
Scattered rain and snow showers are expected today with highs around 40°. West winds increasing to 15 to 25 mph will make it feel colder. It will be windy on Friday with gusts of 45-50 mph possible. Colder air and some light snow may create some slick spots on roadways Friday night. Temperatures will be around 40 today and the upper 40s tomorrow.
Weather History

Forecast Discussion
- Occasional Rain and Snow Today Into Saturday A couple Alberta clipper waves within a larger-scale amplifying trough will produce occasional precipitation varying between rain and snow. Overall totals in our part of Michigan will be fairly light, but some slick spots could develop from snow showers as temperatures drop below freezing tonight into Friday morning, and also Friday night into Saturday morning. With the first Clipper`s 500 mb trough overhead mid day today and some cold-air advection at 850 mb, steepening lapse rates in the lower to mid levels will support scattered low-topped convection. These showers will tend to be a rain/snow mix. Lingering showers into the evening may keep roads wet in some areas, which might lead to some icy patches late tonight, though this appears to be a limited threat at this time. The second Clipper will have a stronger surface low passing through northern Michigan, and may bring a brief period of snow to Central Michigan Friday around daybreak, falling from midlevel moisture advection and isentropic ascent ahead of the low. Uncertain how much snow will fall and how far south given drier low-level air that will be rapidly warming as the morning goes on, but some quick accumulations around an inch and road impacts are possible especially in Clare and Osceola. Rain showers Friday afternoon will change to lake-enhanced snow showers behind a strong cold front later Friday evening. Totals again do not appear to be heavy, but with temperatures falling well into the 20s, slick roads are possible Friday night into Saturday morning. - Windy Friday The low-level jet on the warm side of Friday`s Clipper will be quite strong. HREF mean wind at 925 mb (approx 1500 feet aloft) late Friday morning is 40-50 knots across southwest and south- central Michigan. Most models indicate fair mixing from the surface to 925 mb as temperatures warm toward 50 even with some cloud cover. Southwest gusts around 45 mph late Fri morning to early afternoon could be knocking on the door of a wind advisory. West-northwest gusts 30-40 mph continue Fri evening into the night. - Rain Likely Tue-Wed, Chance of Snow After a cold weekend, temperatures warm up ahead of a large midlatitude cyclone expected to track from the Central Plains to Lower Michigan Tue-Wed. There is very high ensemble support for this upper level pattern and resulting cyclone, and has been for several cycles. Bulk of the precipitation is likely to arrive Tuesday night, with 0.50 to 0.75 inch QPF being the interquartile range for our area among the GEFS, ECE, and CMC. A swath of accumulating snow is possible on the northwest side of the low`s track on Wednesday, but at this time the ensemble members that give several inches of snow to our area are in the minority.

Yes January and February have been wonderful winter months for us. Nice prolonged stretches where you could enjoy winter sports!
False. It wasn’t until January 11th that we had more than inch or two on the ground. Then middle January was too bitterly cold for outdoor activities. And then we ended January with a huge thaw for several days and upper 40’s. Meanwhile, the biggest snow storm in February has been a measly 2″ and the majority of days have had a trace to zero snow on the ground. And now, three weeks into February, and we have bare grass and haven’t seen a snowflake in a week. Such a short winter again!
Kyle, you are 100% correct! I have been skiing for weeks on end! Great winter for sports! The warm weather nuts will never admit the facts about winter! It is one fantasy after another!
Ah yes, skiing with artificial man-made snow is a great indicator of a winter’s strength…
