Forecast Discussion
- Dry and warmer High pressure over the Plains continues to influence our wx. Colder air flowing over the lake is producing plenty of lake- induced strato cu across the western cwa. As the core of the cold air drifts east, we`ll see the stratocu diminish today leading to quite a bit of sunshine by the afternoon. H8 temps near -3c this morning will rise to +4c by this afternoon as the core of the colder air moves east. Highs will reach the mid 50s this afternoon. Tonight will be clear and cold with lows around freezing before rebounding to the lower 60s Thursday under sunny skies. - Warming trend and mostly sunny into early next week Ensemble spread remains low and confidence remains high for a gradual warming trend and mostly sunny skies through Monday. The amplified upper-level ridge over the Great Lakes will flatten out over the weekend with flow becoming more zonal, but surface high pressure will still envelop the eastern half of the CONUS. Gentle southwesterly flow in the low levels over Michigan will maintain warm air. The slight chance of showers for Saturday night has moved farther north into the UP. Our next chance of showers is no earlier than Monday night or Tuesday as this weekend`s cutoff low over the Desert Southwest moves through the Midwest. Ensemble support for appreciable, if any, rainfall is still lackluster. The mean of the ensembles favors a cooling trend Tue-Thu next week, but the magnitude of cooler air is very much in question as the spread in the temperature solutions widens considerably. There may be other opportunities for rain and potential temperature swings in the latter half of next week.

Pretty morning. The weather looks spectacular for the next week or so. Anyone seen the comet yet?
We tried looking last night. There were some clouds. I saw some pic and was bummed we missed it. We will try tonight. I did see that it was here in 2020 or something like that…we saw it then. They called it COVID Comet. Lol.
Too many clouds on the western horizon the past few nights here too. Each evening it gets a bit higher but also dimmer too. I’m hoping it stays clear this evening.
We now have 15 days of October 2024 in the record books. The mean at Grand Rapids so far this month is 55.9 that is a departure of +0.9 the high so far has been 79 on the 11th and the low so far has been 36 there has been 0.88” of rainfall that is a departure of -1.09” there has been no snowfall.
