The Heat Stays On

We have another sweltering day in store with temps in the upper 80s to near 90°.  We had a lone cell pop up around 3:30 yesterday afternoon which gave us a nice .21 of an inch of rain to water our newly planted tomatoes and peppers.  Our rainfall total for the month is now up to 4.91 inches in Otsego.

High temps yesterday went up to 87.6° with a dewpoint of 67.2 before the rain – temps dropped to 72.5 for a short time before rising back up to 85.3°.

We finally have our main air conditioner in place so we can be comfortable when in our home.

Below is the pollen forecast for today for those like myself who suffer from allergies as soon as the first weed makes its appearance.

Check this out! The chart in this article shows where the virus is spreading fast! Don’t worry, Trump said he had the virus under control back in February and it would be disappearing soon! Maybe he should inject some bleach into his system and that will fix everything! Wow!

Breaking News>>>>>we have now lost over 100,00 of our fellow US citizens and the virus is still growing out of control, esp in the states that have not followed the correct procedures! Let’s open everything up and let’s go for 200,000 deaths! The ignorance is incomprehensible! Maybe we can go for a quarter million deaths! The USA already leads the world in cases and deaths, so why stop now?

I’m thinking we maybe upgraded to a slight risk area for West Michigan tomorrow and potential of more flooding Thursday around the area as the weather becomes more unstable with a cold front coming in any thoughts?…INDY

Well we had our day of political views for this week. I know I too have been drawn into this but the facts remain that none of us has the answers. And no one on here is going to change any ones mind. While I do not feel this is the venue to express one political views but that said I will chime in when I disagree with someone. I think at this time we know what each others views are.

Thank God for Whitmer, a smart and thoughtful Governor! Mi stemmed the tide and our daily counts and positive test rates are going way down and some of the southern states are in real trouble, aka TX, AL, MS and GA! Who would have thought! Whitmer Rocks!

Andy W

Maybe we can open up the state sometime in 2024?? The other 49 states should be posting these signs! I know my wife and I will be vacationing outside of Michigan this year! Feel sorry for the teachers and state workers that will be out of a job this year because of the billions lost in tax revenue! Just like Granholm, Whitmer is bankrupting the state!!

Well that’s your opinion. For every adoring fan there’s another on the opposite end of the opinions. Let’s just stick to weather here please.

I agree that we should stick to the weather on this site. I know it is kind of hot in the weather and politics is always a hot subject.

Do you think all the executive orders from our governor helped the state of Michigan when we are in the top 5 states with the most deaths I’m starting to wonder myself like thousands more …INDY

Amen INDY! Just think, in a few months when we are still under a massive lockdown, and unemployment runs out, that will be when this gets really bad! That’s when the suicides and stress related deaths will really start adding up! Can’t believe how badly The Gretch is destroying this state!

Quick quarter inch of rain with a lot of thunder. Now the suns peeking out again. What a steamer of a day!

No rain here yet but it is dark to the SW at this time. It is still 85 here at this time.

Getting a soaking rain right now, but it’s just one big black cloud. Sun is shining all around us with blue skies in each direction. Temp dropped from 92 to 84 and even more humid now with the rain.

Slim

Looking ahead the record high for tomorrow is 93 in 2018 then 92 in 1911 and 91 in 1978. There is a broken line of storms to the west of Grand Rapids at this time.

Record high for GR! And yet zero of the fanfare of our failed recent record low attempt. I read pretty much zero articles or blogs of record heat upcoming. Hmmm

It caught a lot of people off guard. 89 here in Portland . Like a mid summer day ! Outlook maps are trending more red again !

Yep! WOOD had 80 for a high only a few days ago. Crazy!

Slim

Grand Rapids will at least tie the record high for May 26 as it now has reached 90. Here at my house it is now 92 so GRR may still go higher.

GR is at 89 degrees – c’mon 90!

Slim

It now has reached 90 at GR

It looks like a new record high as been set at Muskegon. The current temperature is reported as 89 and that breaks the old record of 87 set in 2010.

Wow – eclipsing a record high by 2 degrees at only 2pm. Impressive.

Slim

Between readings it looks like Muskegon reached 90 for the new record. So both Muskegon and Grand Rapids now have their first 90 days in for the summer of 2020
Slim

Slim

Ok, now that I have taken care of some rants it is now time to write about what I came on to do. At this time the official reading at Grand Rapids is 87 with a DP of 68. But here at my house I now have a unofficial reading of 90 with a DP of 71. Will have to see if GRR reaches 90 in the next few hours. The current reading of 87 at GRR is the 5th warmest for the date.

9am…Chain Saws, and Mulch makers. The neighbors lose seven 60 ft Pines, and a Cherry tree today. Our neighborhood is getting new waterlines, new hook-ups, and streets. Sadly, the completion date is Octobet 22nd 🙁 Rough year over here. Enjoy the temporary heat this week…cold returns this weekend.

Wow!! Looks like the Dem governor states have the highest death counts from COVID!! The Republican governor states are handling this pandemic far better! Thank God for the Republican governors that know how to balance the economy and keeping people in their states employed, while keeping people safe! Seems that the Democratic Governors only are interested in destroying their businesses and people’s livelihoods in their states while putting in very restrictive harmful guidelines that they don’t even follow themselves!

Slim

You know that the person in charge of reporting the “counts” in Florida was fired when she refused to report the “real” numbers. I also know how they report many deaths in Florida. In Florida the term “natural cause” is used when someone dies at home and there is no expected foul play. As for the restrictions they have been in both republican and dem states. While businesses are hurting and many will file bankruptcy (many will file just because they can and get out of paying their employees and other bills) As for workers many may not want to… Read more »

This is a sentence from WINK that is a TV station in Naples, FL it also has been reported in the Tampa News (newspaper)
“Rebekah Jones, the dashboard’s creator, is at the center of brewing controversy after claiming she was let go for refusing to manipulate data on COVID-19 cases.”
Today it looks like the Governor of Florida will be opening up all of Florida. We shall see.

OPEN IT UP!!! If traveling hundreds of miles north to stay in your cottage & go to restaurants with many family members is good enough for Whitmer, it’s good enough for me to say open it up!

I remember when the media and the left was slamming all the red states for opening up – saying it was going to surely usher in a second wave. Ooops – that never happened! Now even the blue states are opening – but way too late.

Slim

I remember Trump saying it would be gone by April with the warmer weather. Well it is now May and it is still here. As for the second wave we are still in the first wave. People seem to forget that this is a world wide pandemic. The jury is still out on the outcome. But we now know over 100,000 have died in the US. 37,000 in the UK. 33,000 in Italy. 28500 in France. 27000 in Spain and now 23600 in Brazil. And I just looked it is now the 7th leading cause of death even in Florida.… Read more »

Thank God for Whitmer and the scientists!

FYI – Whitmer has not put anyone out of business in MI! Here are the 2 leading causes for unemployment in MI! 1. A global pandemic, namely Covid 19! 2. Trumps horrible lack of leadership and multiple mistakes he has made dealing with the pandemic! The list of his mistakes and inaction is too long to list on the blog site!

Slim

I am sure there will be business in Michigan and elsewhere that will go out of businesses. But business go bankrupt all the time. I agree with you on Trump. He was over his head before this pandemic.

Whitmer has shown zero leadership. She was way too late closing the state down (look at Michigan’s astronomical covid cases and deaths versus Ohio) and now she’s afraid to open it back up. Her poll numbers are dropping like a rock. And now the story about her husband asking for special treatment at Torch Lake… doesn’t look good.

Slim

Starting dates in the Great Lakes area Illinois March 21. Ohio March 23. Michigan and Indiana March 24. I will not go into Ohio numbers but they have been climbing for several weeks now. Testing is much lower in Ohio than in Michigan and maybe they are in better health. While they have leveled off the numbers also have been up here in Kent county (must be the Kent county health department) Numbers are also been on the climb in Indiana. And Illinois they are jumping way up. As for poll numbers. https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2020/05/20/republican-men-views-coronavirus/5227671002/ and now for her husband. Stupid but… Read more »

With the H/L of 86/64 yesterday was tied with 2018 for the 6th warmest high for any May 25th and the low of 63 is now the 11th warmest minimum for May 25th. If is stays at or above 64 until midnight today will be the 4th warmest minimum at Grand Rapids. The record high for today is 90 set in 2010. At this time here at my house I have a temperature of 82 with a DP of 72.

Back from my morning run/walk, it is not at all refreshing out there today. Humid, 80 degrees, and that sun is HOT this morning. Looks like a good day to camp out inside with the AC cranked up. Overnight low of only 68 here, almost what our high for the day should be. Yuck.

Yesterday was a top 10 for warmest minimum and a top 15 for daily high. I’m sure we’re even closer to record territory today.

Today will be our 7th above average temp day in a row. For the month of May, the departure is now down to -3.4 degrees and will fall considerably more the next few days. This means 2020 has still started warmer than average, and we remain on track for our 4th straight warm year in a row.

I find it funny that, only a few days ago, the warmest WOOD had in their extended forecast was 80 degrees. I even wrote about it on here. We hit 86 degrees yesterday and will make a run at 90 today!
