We still have about 6 inches of snow on the ground this morning in Otsego but that will soon disappear as spring type weather moves into the area for tomorrow and Tuesday. The weather will soon become very wet Monday with temperatures in the fifties and will rise into the sixties on Tuesday.
Several Rounds of heavy rain are forecasted Monday afternoon into Tuesday night for much of Southwest Lower Michigan.
The graphic to the left is the 7am run of the NAM showing rainfall potential through 1pm Wednesday. The potential exists for storm total rainfall amounts to exceed 3 inches where the heaviest rain persists. This combined with snow melt and frozen ground will generate considerable runoff into the area streams…creeks and rivers. In addition there was still a lot of ice in some of the rivers…which adds to the flood potential risk this week.
There is some uncertainty as to the exact location of the heaviest rain and how much will ultimately fall…which will determine how much impacts occur. We are also in the general risk for thunderstorms for Monday and Tuesday so we will have to keep an eye on this as well.
The Kalamazoo River resides about a hundred yards from my house, luckily we live on a hill and are not at risk but I have seen the water rise well over the banks. The river has been going through some environmental modifications over the past year just downstream as they have been removing the muck from the river bottom which contained PCBs and other chemicals from the paper mills upstream.
For today an area of high pressure centered over Missouri this morning will track up the Ohio Valley today. This fair weather system will provide the region with mainly dry weather and close to normal temperatures. Later tonight the southerly flow strengthens around the backside of this departing high pressure system. As a result some precipitation will start moving in. A brief period of mixed precipitation will be possible at the onset…but it is forecasted to transition quickly to rain showers for most of Monday.

We’re still in Holland. There is as about as much snow here as there is in GR (as observed from the freeway), and that ain’t much.
Welcome to the area! It would be nice to meet some time just to put a face with the name! And yeah, not much snow left here, and it will all be gone tomorrow. Who knows, maybe this rain event coming will be our February event to remember?
Agreed!
Our boy’s team has not fared well in the hockey tournament. These teams from Chicago have been steamrolling. They have two more games today and I don’t think they will qualify to play tomorrow. We’ve had a blast, though.
Are you at the Griffs Ice house West? Formally called The Edge? We go there once and a while to ice skate.
Yep. Nice rink.
Who wants to remember rain.. unbelievable.. INDYDOG14!
Rocky does. He said it was going to be a February to remember, and the way it’s looking, the only thing we will be remembering is a pile of rain.
Lol..Good One…Infydog
