Yesterday we had a high of 70° and a low of 40°.
This week and most of the rest of the month is predicted to be mainly warm and dry. The only chance for rainfall this week may come this weekend from tropical storm 6 now developing in the western Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures this week will mainly be in the low to upper 80s.
Weather History
1968: A tornado injures one person as it damages several businesses in Cedar Springs in Kent County. Another tornado damages a farm west of Monroe, Michigan.
2001: A tornado moved through Delta Township and into the western outskirts of Lansing causing heavy damage over an eight-mile-long path. There were minor injuries and several barns and other buildings were damaged or destroyed.
On September 9, 2001, a cold front finally passed through Southeast Michigan ending an unusual three-day severe weather outbreak in September. The cold front slowly approached the western Great Lakes region on the 7th and 8th while warm and unstable air ahead of this front allowed thunderstorms to develop during the afternoon and evening hours on all three days. Most of the thunderstorms that developed over this three day period produced severe wind gusts. The most common type of damage from these storms was trees being blown down or broken.
On September 9, 1931, the temperature rose to 98 degrees in Saginaw, which is the record high temperature for the day. This day also marked the beginning of a four-day period (September 9-12) of record-high temperatures!
NWS Forecast
Forecast Discussion
- Dry weather and warmer temperatures on the way One last short wave on the far western periphery of the upper low is dropping through the thumb region early this morning. There are some clouds associated with this wave, but no rain being detected. High pressure only continuing to move in will keep cloud cover limited, and maybe even clear with little to no low level moisture floating by. Highs today will be a bit warmer than Sunday as 850 mb temps increase from around 8C to around 12 C. Highs today will be in the upper 70s, while Tuesday should see highs sneak up into the low to mid 80s as 850 mb temps increase to around the mid teens C. - Low confidence in tropical moisture arriving end of the week Model agreement is good on flat upper ridging prevailing this week. The big wild card is the tropical cyclone forming near the Texas Gulf coast and moving northeast into southern Illinois by Friday. There are indications that the northward progress of the low will be impeded by a blocking high to the northeast of Lower Michigan. Sensible weather will feature dry weather with above normal temperatures through Friday. The dry spell could be broken by late Friday or Saturday as the plume of tropic moisture surges northward. The blended model forecast brings low chance POPs in by Saturday and lingering into early next week in the blocking pattern.
What a day! Sun nice temps and low humidities! Incredible!
Looks like a great week of weather…
The lawn’s growth is finally slowing down. I’m fine with that. It’s September and I’d rather not have to mow every two or three days. The weather has been just lovely lately.
