I have always been an early riser – I like to watch the sun come up and listen to the birds and morning doves. This is generally my “quiet” time of the day when I consume a large mug of coffee. When I was younger before the advent of personal computers and the internet I would jump right out of bed and be ready to go.
As some of you know I am a wood carver and dabble in electronics. I built my own deck and porches, re-roofed my house when it needed to be done, etc, etc. I hate to pay money to someone else when I can do it myself. It can take longer but I don’t have to pay someone else to do it. I learned to do most of these things by myself – my father-in-law taught me how to do home wiring.
My first lawn mower was a push reel mower (they do still make these). I have used a German buck saw to feel a tree and manually split 12 cords of wood to heat my home every year. I used to have a two acre hobby farm I worked with my hands.
The reason I writing all if this is because a good portion of our youth don’t know how to work with their hands and a large portion of the knowledge of the old ways of doing things is fading away. Most schools don’t have wood shops anymore. I worry about what is going to happen if the power goes out and people don’t know what to do to survive. Just some food for thought….
Skies should become mostly sunny across the area by mid morning. It will be a touch warmer than yesterday with highs in the mid 70s away from Lake Michigan. A cold front comes through tonight with a period of showers and a few non severe thunderstorms. We may see up to a quarter inch of rain. Tuesday will become mostly sunny and it will be cooler with highs only in the 60s.
It was beautiful sunset tonight especially with the sunlight and heavy cloud and light rain at one time. The sky colors were awesome.
The average high today is 76° and the average low is 54°. I wish it could be like this year-round. I’ve been working outside since I got home from work and hardly a sweat, thanks to low humidity and fantastic breeze. Time for dinner.
50’s tonight chilling for this time of year ! INDYDOG14!
Average lows for this time of year are in the 50’s. I think you have your months mixed up.
I was going to say. Lol
After a warm 2016 and 2017, GR is now above average for temps for 2018. Who knew?!
Also to our Thunderstorms drought continues .. INDYDOG14!!
Feels like Fall alone the lk shore .. Crazzy for June!! INDYDOG14!!
LOL A whopping possible 1-2 degrees below average today in regards to the high temps. Crazy! (sarcasm)
I used to have a lawn mower like that one. And I also wonder what will happen when the power goes out. Not just power to ones house but hey what if the cell towers lost power??? I mentioned the other day that the old land line phones would work if the power went out and you should have seen the look I got from that one.

You are right about the land line phone. When your power goes out you would still have a phone. I had that till about 2 years ago. I always thought I should along with my cell phone which is the kind I put $10. in minutes on it & it lasts me a year. Like I said I had my land line till 2 yrs ago now I have a VOIP thru cable co and when I loose my power I loose my phone too. Live and learn.
After our below normal temp Spring we are in quite a stretch of below normal temps! We had a below normal temp weekend and now the word for this week is COOL, COOL, COOL! Who would have thought? Keep it coming!
Spin….
Yes, Spring 2018 in west Michigan was cooler then average even with that warm May. Here in GR the 3 month mean was 46.4° the average is 47.4° so that was -1.0° below average for the season. GR had 9.65″ of precipitation (average is 9.70″) there was 10.9″ of snow fall (average is 10.1″) so the period was cooler then average and near average in precipitation and snow fall. This week will start off cool and should warm up to near average and at this time much of June looks to be near average.

Thanks for the FACTS instead of the spin form Mookie! Keep up the good work!
Quite a stretch?? Where the heck were you last week when it was near 100? 70s yesterday and today, that’s right where we should be for the first week of June.
After one of the warmest Mays ever, the latest CFS weeklies continue to show nothing but warmth through July. Looks like our next really warm shot arrives around June 12th.
We have had a wild spring season for sure one of the coldest Aprils then one of the warmest Mays. I look for June to be near average. (but the fact is it still could go either way)
