Summer Returns

We had our first spring thunder yesterday and a tenth of an inch of rain in Otsego.  Our high and low temps were 70.9°F / 48.7°F respectively.  We currently have 47° at 5:30 this morning.

Warm temperatures are expected Tuesday and Wednesday (likely just a few degrees shy of surpassing record highs). A shower or storm is possible near Ludington and to the east today. Additional showers or storms are possible from time to time over the next several days. Severe weather is unlikely.

Average highs for today are in the low to mid-50s and we will exceed those numbers today and tomorrow by 20° – we may close in on 80° today and tomorrow especially in southern Michigan.  There are signs our temps will get back down to normal next week.

Forecast Discussion

- Low chances for rain with upper ridging today and tomorrow

Showers and thunderstorms currently over Wisconsin should weaken
as they move into the shortwave ridging across Lower Michigan, but
they could bring clouds and low chance POPs and affect max
temperatures. Minor tweaks were made to the grids to account for
this but given the nature of the uncertainty with convection, this
will continue to be closely monitored.

A similar situation will follow for Wednesday as the ridge axis
shifts east and heights begin to fall but most of the clouds and
rain will be off to our west, closer to the upper low.

- Upper low approaches Wednesday Night with Showers and Thunder

The best chance for rain will be Wednesday night and Thursday as
upper low pushes occluded front through Lower Michigan. Slow
moving area of rain and embedded thunder could bring up to an inch
of rain by Thursday night.

The upper low remains in the area into the weekend with cooler
temperatures and periods of showers persisting each day with
diurnal enhancement.

The last 2 days have felt like summer! The little thundershowers we have had briefly sure have greened up the grass too. My plants are loving it. Our geraniums are too. I hope you all enjoyed Easter too.

Well poured for 10 minutes, temp dropped almost 20 degrees, and now the suns back out and temps shooting up again but with more humidity.

Both the official high today of 77 and the 76 that most of the day was in will be the 4th warmest high of any April 6th in Grand Rapids recorded history. At Muskegon the 68 is the 6th warmest and at Holland their 75 is also their 6th warmest. Down at Kalamazoo their 79 is the 5th warmest and to the east Lansing with 78 will come in at 4th.
At this time it is cloudy (dark to the west) and some what windy and 73 here.

Not a bad day…let’s not fall for it though. We’re all aware of the painful “price”, of a 75 degree day 🙁

What’s better than summer in early April? We’ve been able to golf for almost a month already.

MLive just put out a paid article about all the paltry snow amounts in Michigan this year. The subtitle also said the “snowiest” city in Michigan just experienced its lowest snow totals ever. Maybe Slim can do a run down for us for free 😉

Wow!! Awfully quiet around here with this beautiful summer like weather going on!

I seen that report from MLive. Not sure by looking at the article what city they think is the snowiest in Michigan. It looks like they seem to think that Gaylord maybe that city. As for Marquette their location moved from the city of Marquette to the current location in Negaunee. The current location is warmer in the summer and colder in the winter and there is much more snow fall then in the city. Anyway I just did a quick look at Herman and as of yesterday their total snow fall for this winter season so far is 141.9″… Read more »

With yesterdays thundershower and the warm temperatures the grass started its spring grown and has that nice green look. And the spring flowers are well ahead of schedule. The overnight low here was 46 and the current temperature is 47. The record highs for today and tomorrow are 81 so the expected highs in the upper 70’s will be one of the warmest for both days.
