There are a lot of people who stop by here to check the weather and sometimes peek at that blog for the entertainment value and knowledge it provides. I was talking to a deacon I met yesterday from an area church and got a compliment on how easy it is to find weather info here without having to dig for it and for not having the annoying popups and ads many of the sites provide. We then got into a discussion on the state of the church which is one of my favorite topics – I won’t get into that much here except to say that I am a conservative Christian not a contemporary. It is hard to find a conservative church today, being a baby boomer this is the way I was brought up and still cling to in a modern world. This is a topic best left to a side bar or an about me page as we deal with the weather here, not Christian ethics and doctrines.
We are entering a warm period today with chances of rain and thunderstorms through Friday. Humidity levels will be on the rise and feels-like temps near 90°. Below are the model runs (NAM) through Friday for precipitation chances and temps.

As you can see there are several bouts of rain through Thursday until a cold front moves through Thursday night/Friday morning which is shown in the last frame of the futurecast.
The CPC gives us an 87% chance of above normal temps over the next 6 to 10 days and a 75% chance of above normal in the 8 to 14 day outlook. Normal temps are generally in the low 70s. Rainfall guesses are for equal chances of above/below/normal.
We had a few sprinkles last night – enough to call it a trace – our low for the day is 64 at 5am.
As a side note: this has been a banner year for butterflys which really like my wife’s flowers. We have a small pond in our side yard which is home to 12 frogs and our large goldfish, it is the most frogs I have seen gathered there. I have seen Katydids and a large praying mantis which I took on my hand and moved to a safer location away from the cats. I have heard a lot of reports of walking sticks this year.
Summer returns is right! Tornado warning for eastern Isabella and southern Midland counties. It’s mid September, right?
Getting some thunder here at this time. Odd went thru most of the summer without a thunderstorm and now there is one just to my west. current temperature here is 82 and cloudy with that thunder.

I’m new to this website, but, being a weather buff, I’m glad I stumbled onto it. I had about 3/10″ in my rain gauge from this morning’s rain. I live about 2 miles east of Hamilton. We converted a little over an acre of our property to native prairie about 3 seasons ago, and also have been enjoying the butterflies, bees, snakes and other wildlife that were not there when it was lawn.
Welcome Bernie!
Just got home from work. Warm and muggy today. Rained pretty hard about 2p. Lots of CTG lightning. Really loud. Going out to mow the lawn.
Welcome Bernie, hope you enjoy the site and I am glad that you put in your location as that helps a lot when someone post their conditions.

I have probably cut our grass the most that i can remember since Spring in years and it’s still raining other then the 3 week dry spell back in July it’s been raining since April none stop out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR ..Amazing..INDY ….
You must be in the “lucky” area. By us we have had just under 2 inches of rain total since late June, and of that total over an inch of it was in one rainfall back in early August. Haven’t needed to do a full mow of the yard in over 2 months because it stopped growing and turned brown back in July.
It was pouring out this morning when I ran the dog outside. Plenty of butterflies here too. They are loving my flowers and butterfly bush. The little finches are enjoying the cone flowers. We have a huge toad in our garden. He is cool.
How about that, we have received our first rain in several weeks that measures in at more than a few hundredths! Up to 0.31” with the rain coming to an end now. The air is going to be thick this afternoon, dew points already near 70. Yuck.
The rain gauge was dry this AM so my report for yesterday on rain fall is 0. The overnight low both here at my house and at the airport was 62. The H/L at GRR yesterday was 69/55. For today September 10th the record H/L at Grand Rapids is 94 set in 2013 the record low is 36 set in 1969. The warmest minimum was a very warm for September 77 set in 2013. The record coolest maximum is 56 set in 1940. Last year the H/L was 73/54
