I have a small fish pond with a rock garden next to my house where large goldfish and a dozen or so frogs reside. Today I will cover up the pond for the winter and all of the fish and frogs will settle to the bottom and go dormant until I uncover them in the spring. All I have to do is keep a small fountain going to keep off the ice and maintain minimal oxygen levels in the water. I have seen the ice get several inches thick in there and the fountain maintains a six-inch diameter hole in the middle. This is generally the last thing I do in the fall before the Christmas lights go up then I go fairly dormant for the winter 🙂
Our record-breaking stretch of warm weather will end after today. A cold front sweeping through Lower Michigan this evening and overnight will touch off a line of showers or storms, and a few areas could see some strong wind gusts. Our highs today will reach the low to mid-70s once again though there will be more clouds than the last few days. Tomorrow will be a shock as temps will be 25 to 30° colder than today. Our high temp for yesterday was 77° in Otsego here at the station.
We have a near 100% chance of rain tonight with a chance of a storm. WInd will be the main threat with a gust up to 50 mph possible. Rainfall amounts for SW Michigan will be in the quarter to half-inch range.
We currently have 64° at 4:45 this morning. Dewpoints will be higher today near the 60° range. Below are the past record temps for today and the records for yesterday.
The following high temperature records may be exceeded today: Grand Rapids 67 1999 Muskegon 70 1911 Lansing 68 1999
The storm has moved in here. Strong winds. Downpour of rain. Winds are blowing stuff against the house.
Only a couple of hours from “THE END”…😖
We will have to see if it holds till midnight, but right now the low for the day is 65 degrees. That is a +30 above average!! You just don’t see departures from average that extreme very often.
Man did I call it right or what big cold front coming around the 10th of November just in time for opening of fire arms bang bang love cold fronts can’t wait to head north Saturday for a real vacation ….INDY
Not just crazy mild today, but humid as well. When do you ever see dew points in the 60’s during November??
The GFS model is showing some decent storms yes including snow with them around the end of the month we will see if they hold definitely looks more stormy pattern coming ….INDY
And it said the same thing a few weeks ago about now, yet here we are breaking record highs left and right. Interesting.
It doesn’t look like temps will be below 32 degrees for very long during that time period. So any snow we might get won’t last.
Up to 75 degrees again. Just another record shattering day to add to the long list.
Current weather …..Wind advisory for west Michigan till Wednesday 40 to 50mph winds possible power outages …INDY
It’s mid November and there’s no snow in sight! Just more above average temps. I love short winters!
Soon, the days will be getting longer as we head into spring.
Latest CPC 8 – 14 day outlooks showing another large surge of warm air coming up from the South. That would be perfect timing for thanksgiving as people would be able to have some outdoor family gatherings.
Excellent, let’s get these above normal temps out of the way in November and then turn to the real cold and snow in December! Perfect timing! Keep the great news rocking and rolling!
Sorry, but December is projected to be more of the same. Great news for everyone being able to get outdoors though!
More incredible stats and facts for the month of November…..we are currently at about 15% of our average snowfall for this point in the month. What an incredible pattern we are in!
I was wondering if anyone has seen Joe Bastardi’s winter guess?

I guess you’re a believer in the heat now, Slim. Last week, you didn’t seem impressed with the coming heat wave. Going for our 4th straight record high today!
How many times do I have to tell you Slim’s a facts and stats guy he doesn’t need to believe…..INDY
All in all I am enjoying this very nice warm spell. It is just too bad this will not last all winter. I have not seen a winter guess from any of our local meteorologist it seems like this is the time of year they come out.

Not sure why the NWS preliminary monthly data isn’t coming up, but it looks like yesterday was a whopping +24 degrees above average. Wow!
Yesterday official high of 77 was the 2nd warmest high for any November day. 81 is the record high for the month.

What a pile of records shattered again yesterday! But Muskegon has to be the most impressive, obliterating the old record by 11 degrees. That is something you do not see very often, if ever. Unbelievable stretch we are in!
Get theses 40’s back I need to hear crunch crunch out in the woods just in time for opening day bang bang …We love cold fronts!! INDY
Just think in about a month from now we will be getting hammered with snow! Bring it!
I think the more we talk about snow the possiblity of jinxing this winter goes up…
I will take a look at some past warm early Novembers and see how the winter turned out. Two years that come to mind are 1950 and 1975. In 1950 the record high for November of 81 occurred on the 1st The the record low of -10 occurred on the 25th and there was 17.5″ of snow that month. In 1975 the 2nd place record high (that was tied here yesterday) was recorded that November seen 6.6″ of snow fall. For the winter seasons 1950/51 had 81.5″ and the 1975/76 had 69.2″ The winter of 50/51 was near average and the winter of 75/76 had a very cold January with several blizzards. I will look into this more later.
