Summer Rerun

With the exception of the 90° temperatures, this weather pattern is boring and makes it sleepy time for local mets.  No excitement in the weather rooms or in the skies as the heat beats relentlessly down upon us.

The only chance of showers today, as with the past two days will be east of any lake breeze which may set up.  There is about a 10% chance so count yourself lucky if you get one.  I think Indy should throw a rain dance party to get things moving in the atmosphere.

Not much going on in the Atlantic except tropical storm Edouard moving away from the U.S. and a couple of tropical disturbances off the western coast of Mexico.

Great weekend at the lake. The water was almost too warm. With very little wind, it really didn’t cool you off. The water temp is more like August than July. The bass were biting like mad too. Our daughter caught a 20-incher just shy of four pounds. Biggest fish of her life. She landed it like a pro (great teacher, you know). 🙂

Mark I’m kind of shocked your current 90* degrees streak is at 1 as of today your shooting towards 12 for a record I thought Lansing would be about with Grand Rapids going on 5 now I’m coming to your neck.of the woods ..Stay cool …INDY

Lansing’s daily highs for July – 88, 93, 95, 89, 93, 93. I can’t tell the difference between 88 or 89 and 90. It’s all hot to me. Now I get to go out and mow the lawn. Oh boy….

Currently 90* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR another very warm day! The cold Sprites are going down nicely though this afternoon keeping the sweating down lol ….INDY

Getting up at 4:30 in the morning when it’s still upper 60’s to around 70 is far, far from refreshing. I would take those temps for daily highs, not overnight lows. Yet another clean air action day today, pretty sure nobody is calling this a refreshing air mass. Just walking out the door this morning I could feel the energy just drain out of me.

INDY
INDY

That’s right I forget 60’s are hot 70’s are extreme 80’s blazing and 90’s are deadly 100’s don’t exist anymore on here lol….Good grieve turn your ac on when you get in your car at 430am not a big deal ….INDY

Barry in Zeeland
Barry in Zeeland

Wrong as always. My car ride to work is 6 minutes, hardly time to even cool the car down. Think of it on the flip side…..if it was Winter and we were having days and weeks of single digits or sub zero temps you’d be posting about it 15 times a day. We average around ten 90 degree days a year, and we will blow by that number this year.

INDY
INDY

Please don’t feel so drained out at 430 in the morning because it’s in the 60”s walking to your car you may get dizzy and pass out on your 6 minute drive to work take caution.. INDY

Barry in Zeeland
Barry in Zeeland

Stop acting like a fool. The car ride is 6 minutes, then 10 to 12 hours working in 100+ degree, what you call refreshing, heat.

Again Sounds like a my OSHA problem working in a 100+ degree environment feel sorry for your employees…. Hopefully they don’t require mask very scary….INDY

According to this, Lake Michigan water temps are much warmer for this time of year than any year the past 5 years. It even looks like water temps are warmer than they were in 2012 at this time! Probably a record high for this date.

The daytime highs have reached 89 or better on all days so far this July. One would think then that this year would be one of the hottest starts to any July. Well over the first 5 days of July the daily mean (that is adding the high and low and then divide by 2) is the coolest first 5 days of July of the last 3 years. How that happened is that over the first 5 days the lows on average have been cooler than the last two years. The 5 day mean this year 79.2. last year 80.0… Read more »

Easily explained due to the clear nights and low humidity. Things will look very different when you compare the first 10 or 15 days of July later in the month. But yes, last July was HOT too!

Slim

That may be true.

Not a “heat wave”, just an old fashioned summer…we’re simply unfamiliar, as the Southern Arctic has been living to it’s name in our recent memories. Be thankful, and enjoy. Sure would be paradise to keep this going through September 😉 Dream on…

The craziest thing you’ll see today: Lake Michigan temps. Currently a few degrees warmer than our average summer maximum and climbing! Currently +12 or +13 degrees warmer than average.

Phew! Welcome to what is likely to be GR’s 5th straight 90+ degree day! Not too many times we can say that. Love these long, hot summers!

INDY
INDY

Low of 64* degrees overnight night out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR was a pretty sight seeing some 80’s coming this weekend if that’s the case Grand Rapids will not break the record of 90′ degrees consistent days that would be a pretty sight also hoping for the best as move towards mid July already Shuuuuu ….Have a super Monday keep drinking them cool Sprites ….INDY

Slim

While it has been very warm to at times hot so far this has fallen short of the heat wave on early July 2012. The low here at my house last night was 66 at this time I have a reading of 73 with a DP of 67. The last reading at GRR was 70 with a DP of 67.

That’s fine with me the dewpoint has not been then that bad I believe last July we had dewpoints In the 70’s .. With no record highs being broke and no record 90* degree consistent days in a row as of now can we say over heat hype ….INDY

Mookie
Mookie

LOL Nice try at spin. Muskegon will likely soon break their all-time 90+ day streak. GR will likely end up in the top 5 longest heat waves ever recorded as well.

INDY
INDY

Talking about 2012 8 years ago today it was a 104* degrees 8 years later not even coming close to that today more hot weather hype is right like I said last week yawning let me know when records are broke in GR not Muskegon Michigan lol……INDY. ….

I love the fact that this summer is even being compared to the blowtorch of 2012! Many on here were talking about a cool summer LOL Whoops

I think the 90 degree graphic should have the # of consecutive days for GR at 5 since every day since last Wednesday has been over 90.

Went to Holland beach last night and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many people on the beach and in the water at 9 o’clock at night. Crazy stretch of heat!

Slim

It looks like the graphic was made on the 4th. The current numbers are Grand Rapids 5, Muskegon 7, Kalamazoo 6, Lansing 1 and Holland 0.
