Eastern Allegan County has seemed to be under a rain and storm free bowl this August with less than an inch of rain so far for the month. We have had rain and storms moved all around us the past week or so missing Otsego by a mere mile or two. We had some thunder and lightning to our southwest and west last evening which passed to the northeast. That is the problem with pulse storms, they form over a relatively small area and move on their merry way.
Currently there is a line of storms moving 40 to 50 mph to the east through southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois with severe thunderstorm watches and warnings. At 6:45am they are about 220 miles away which would bring the line through the 131 corridor around noon or earlier should the line pick up speed.
The SPC has put us in a slight risk area for severe weather mainly late this morning into early afternoon. Severe storms could bring damaging wind gusts and large hail and perhaps an isolated tornado.
As I write this the NWS has put us under a thunderstorm Watch through 2pm so stay tuned for further updates…
Just a few sprinkles here today. Sun cam out at times. Nice breeze for awhile. Overall not bad out.
Just 0.14″ of rain here from today’s rain showers. There was no thunder here in NW Grand Rapids just a period of light rain and that is it. At This time it is 80 here with cloudy skies.

“Storm” total rain fall of 0.12”, top wind gust of 24 mph. Wow?
Up to a whooping .38 as of 1400….
Several thousand west Michiganders without power. We just got some sprinkles here.
As of noon: .28 of an inch in Otsego
Just the standard “disintigrating radar” show. Maybe some rain, other than that, we have no weather.
Yup. That line really split when it came through this area. Half of it dove South, the other half North, and we’re getting a few “severe” sprinkles.
Thunderstorm Warning for central Allegan county – the thunder and lightning are moving into Otsego
At this time a area of showers and thunderstorms are in mid lake. The most lightning is between Kalamazoo and the state border, with some more lightning being detected around Muskegon. I was going to water the grass but will wait and see how much rain we get from this system instead. And yes we have not had many storms watches of late but then again we have not had many storms either. The current temperature here at my house is 77 with a dew point of 69.

Well, I guess we will see what Lake Michigan does to that line.
Shouldn’t see much weakening as the water is fairly warm….
There is a good amount of lightning from the Southerner 1/3 of the lake to the south but not much north of there until off shore north of Muskegon so Grand Rapids may not get a lot of thunder and lightning of this this we shall see.

From the NWS:
Line of thunderstorms moving through Iowa/Wisconsin/Illinois
overnight is heading toward Lower Michigan this morning. A severe
thunderstorm watch is in effect until 2pm this afternoon for all
counties along and south of a line from Muskegon to Alma. This
includes Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Jackson. The main
threats are strong winds and large hail, but an isolated tornado
or two can`t be ruled out depending on exactly how things come
together later this morning. Stay updated on these potentially
dangerous storms throughout the morning via your preferred source
of weather information.
Like Mark said below, I also can’t remember the last time we had a thunderstorm watch in the morning. Or I guess for that matter, we’ve hardly had any watches at all the past few years. They just seem to jump from nothing to a warning lately with no watches ever posted.

I can’t remember the last time I woke up to a severe thunderstorm watch. It will be nice to be able to track some activity (hopefully/pretty please/fingers crossed).
Very foggy this morning. Foggier than Friday when we were under the advisory.
