When the clouds slowly moved out of Michigan yesterday we ended up with a mostly sunny day with a high of 61° and a low of 43°. We currently have 38° at 6 am. As seems the case in most years we turn the corner into summer-like conditions abruptly which we will see as we move into next week.

Starting later today or tonight areas from I-96 south will have intermittent light rain which will last through Saturday morning. Meanwhile, areas north of I-96 will stay predominately dry. Highs will be in the 60s through Mother’s Day, then summerlike temperatures in the 70s to near 80 will prevail next week.
Forecast Discussion
- Showers Across Southern MI Tonight Through Friday Night - Rgnl IR sat trends early this morning suggest mid to high level clouds will continue to increase from the west today. A consensus of latest high res guidance such as the latest runs of the HRRR and 3km nam suggest dry wx will prevail thru this aftn before showers develop over our southern fcst area this evening. This notion seems very reasonable since dry east winds will inhibit pcpn from developing until tonight as fcst soundings finally show deeper moisture moving into far southern MI. Meanwhile further north across central MI fcst soundings look quite dry and we expect very little if any rainfall across our northern counties through Friday. The low pressure system will continue to move east across the lower OH valley region Friday night bringing showers to our southern fcst area with dry conditions continuing north of I-96. - Fair Wx This Weekend Then Very Warm And Dry Next Week - A ridge of high pressure over the northern Great Lakes region will bring fair wx with seasonably temps this weekend. Then we continue to expect a significant wx pattern change next week. Persistent southerly flow and upper level ridging will result in temps reaching around 10 to 15 degrees above normal next week. High temps from Tuesday through Friday should easily reach the upper 70s to mid 80s. The evolution of the sfc/upper level pattern for next week also suggests predominantly dry wx for our area.

Blowtorch warning!
It will nice and warm. But I would not call it a “blowtorch” While there will be some 80’s I don’t see any upper 80’s or low 90’s thus no “blowtorch”
At this time it is cloudy and 62 here in MBY.

More clouds now temperature is dropping 56 now out in area feels cool outside suns gone again…InDY ..
The official H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 62/42 and for a change there was 80% of possible sunshine. The official overnight low was 40, here at my house the low was 39. For one of the few this in recent days the low at Lansing was colder than at Grand Rapids the official overnight low at Lansing was 36. At he current time there is hazy sun and a reading of 49 here at my house.
It now looks like there will several days of summer like temperatures starting next week. That will cause a great leap in the the green up of much of Michigan. The latest runs of the CFSv2 show a kind of up and down look for the rest of May.

How ironic. We are leaving on Saturday for the U.S. Virgin Islands, where it is going to be in the mid 80s and rain/sun mix most of the week. Murphy strikes again!
Well things should be nice and green here when you get back. And as you know it well be very warm down on the Islands.
