With our non remarkable weather pattern I find it is time to bring out some reminisces and other materials to fill this space…
It is amazing all the terminology which has come about the past decade or so for largish snow storms. Even though Arctic Vortex has been around for quite some time the term has come into use to frighten or excite the population the past few years. Snowmageddon is more laughable phrase for blizzard and was first used in 2007. Those who live in the upper Appalachians and Rockies are used to heavy dumps of snow and below zero temperatures in the winter months so they are not excitable when Snowzilla or Snowmageddon are mentioned. They sit in front of their fireplaces enjoying roasted moose, deer and other wild game they acquired in the fall. I am not being facetious as I have lived that life myself. Moose meat is best boiled first and then braised as it is so tough.
I still smoke meat and have over the past 50 years. I make large batches and the kids and grand kids can’t get enough of it. Many use it as a snack food however this was a way of preserving meat to last longer. For centuries meat was packed into barrels with layers of salt. A lot if people have forgotten the art of preserving food for use over the long winter months. We are used to running to Walmart or Meijers to get our groceries every week. Mead, beer, wine and spirits were made by farmers or local artisans and enjoyed at home for personal consumption or the local pub. I have a friend who makes mead which is fermented honey. I have also enjoyed white lightning which is generally over 150 proof. Don;t get me wrong – I am not much of a drinking man as I was in my younger days – I buy a bottle of good Cognac around Christmas time which will last the entire year and enjoy a good dark beer once in a while.
Now we move on to the sensitive topic of legalizing marijuana in Michigan. I celebrated on the 6th when it became legal as did many having been one of the hippie generation. I understand the concerns of people being high around their kids or driving around under the influence – they are valid concerns. I wonder how many were already doing it before it became legal or how the use will increase now. All I can say is – parents keep the stuff away from your children, don’t use it around them or better yet don’t use it at all while you are raising them. WE HAVE A CHOICE NOW TO USE IT OR NOT, just as we do alcohol. Pot is generally more potent than alcohol and a little bit goes a long ways. Pot is also psychologically addictive if one uses it regularly, so keep these things in mind. We have some bloggers here who use it for medical issues and it is a great pain killer for those who have intense pain every day. I would prefer it over opioids. I have trigeminal neuralgia which is like a cross between a migraine, sinus infection and a bad toothache, since I am now retired and in my golden years pot would be a welcome change from opioids.
This is just my opinion and just as all the others on this site have opinions we should respect them as we are not clones or live in a country where only one opinion is allowed. So, whether you like the snow and cold or prefer warm and sunny all is good in Weatherland. We are here to be informed but also to have fun.
We didn’t see as much sun as I expected yesterday and we may see another duplicate day today with the clouds breaking later. Tuesday and Wednesday may be mostly cloudy again with a chance of light snow Wednesday night. Temperatures will slowly rising into the low 40s by the end of the week. This pattern we are in may continue on through next week though we may see a shift to a more wintry pattern by the end of next week…

I was at the rink yesterday watching Paul Goodloe on TWC before our son’s game. Not sure where in North Carolina he was but there was only about an inch of snow on the ground. When he ran out of things to talk about, he grabbed a snow shovel and started shoveling live on the air.
Winter Storm Diego!!
I love the fact I can light up a joint in my own home and not worry about it. Sometimes I like to fire one up for one for a special occasion or a holiday with my Sprites or have Uncle Jack or Uncle sparkee over now they don’t have to go in my basement to smoke .. marijuana is a wonderful drug it helps out a lot of good people I’m glad now more people can enjoy it and get it the right way to help them!! INDY!
Michael, the best statement you made above is that we have a choice now when it comes to marijuana. I’ve always believed it should be a choice, not some one else’s. I don’t really use it, but I appreciate the fact that the choice is now there if I ever would decide to for whatever reason. Did I buy some in Colorado this year, heck yeah I did. But it’s no different than alcohol, I’m not running or driving around putting any one else at risk if I use it. As with anything else, one needs to be responsible.
What’s funny is reading Bill’s Blog. He hasn’t posted one map of all the warm temps upcoming but will endlessly post the maps when it shows us in the blue.
I’ve noticed that as well over the past few years. My guess is that it’s not so much him, but rather WOOD. It is a business, and the goal,is to make money. Driving people to their website creates hits which in turn generates revenue. Posting how mild and snowless in December does not get people jacked up. Hyping a three inch snowfall into a generational snowmagddon does, and drives them to their website. It all seemed to have started around the time they shut down the comments on his blog. Just my thoughts.
Ha ha your way wrong why Bill don’t have comments on his blog anymore but nice try! Let it snow let it snow let it snow !! INDY!
I never said why the comments were shut down, everyone already knows that. And you got the wrong song little buddy, it’s “let it NOT snow, let it NOT snow, let it NOT snow”.
Something behind it agree Barry. To bad there are NO cold maps for awhile. LOL !!!!
blue*
Funny another day with below normal temps and I am sure it will be another day of warm weather hype! We are in an INCREDIBLE stretch of below normal temps! Face the facts!
You forgot to mention the part about no big snow upcoming for weeks! Spin…
We did get some sun yesterday. It was nice needing to wear sunglasses during the drive to Flint for our son’s hockey game.
I do not think that just because it’s legal, now a bunch of people are going to start using it. I think that folks that have always used it, will continue. And those who didn’t use it when it was illegal, will continue not using it. Just my opinion.
