Thought this is a crazy snow map for those of you who are wishing for some white stuff. This is the latest GFS model through December 14. Look at the snow blooming after the 10th! This is showing up to 40 inches for Nebraska and 3 feet in areas to the north.
Not sure if this storm will materialize, the GFS is the only model picking up on it right now, so we will have to keep an eye on it.
Cold air is still predicted to come into the area after the 9th of December after our mild period this week and next with a low pressure area moving south of the state by the 14th. For today though a weak cold front will bring scattered showers this afternoon then high pressure will provide fair weather for Wednesday. Low pressure brings some light rain or snow late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Winter gets rolling in here around the 10th of December very cold air about to invade on the mid west and with lk temps in the 50’s still look out snowmageddon is a getting closer .. stay tuned INDY!!
As of today November 28, 2017 Grand Rapids has only recorded 0.2” of snow fall for the month of November. It looks like the month may end with only 0.2” of snow going back to 1899 there have only been 12 Novembers where there been only 0.2” of snow fall or less. 2010 0.1”. 2001 trace, 1999 0.1”, 1999 0.2” 1984 trace, 1948 trace, 1946 trace, 1927 0.1” 1907 0.0”, 1906 0.0” and 1905 trace. Now if you break this down to the 3 locations that the records have been taken here in Grand Rapids 1. The current airport November 1963 present 2. Between 44th and 32nd streets west of Kalamazoo and east of Madison mid 1920’s to 1963 and 3. Not sure where the readings were taken before 1924 but it was downtown. Anyway the average snow for the season after a low snow fall in November for all 12 years is 53.6” for the years at the old airport its 40.3’ and for the downtown location its only 35.6” I do not rely on the snow fall amounts for the down town location in the 1900 to 1915 time frame. But what I am getting at here is many of the low November snow fall years had below average snow fall for the total winter season as well. We shall see how this winter turns out.

If that plays out, this whole be the 3rd or 4th perfect Winter in a row! The only thing better would be to get all 50 inches at once, then have it all melt 3 days later!
“would” not whole
