Here we are in mid April and we are still talking about snow. We should be seeing temperatures in the 50s and we will after another cool week though we will see a drier pattern shaping up for the next couple weeks with chances of slightly below normal precipitation.
Our slow moving storm system has moved to our east so now we are in the cold wrap around phase of the system. This means snow showers into Tuesday morning. Briefly A high pressure system moves across the area later Tuesday into Wednesday but that is quickly followed by yet another storm for later Wednesday into Thursday. This will be a rain to snow event. Temperatures will run about 10 to 20 degrees below normal through Thursday. Then a warm up begins late in the week and continues into the weekend.
Luckily the ice melted off quickly yesterday afternoon after a period of ice changing to sleet which covered the ground – it was a sloppy mess to clean up off the drive, sidewalk car and truck. In case you were wondering the feature image shows the difference between sleet and graupel.
Woke up to almost 2″ of fluffy snow. Wasn’t expecting that. Roads are tricky, as the melt from yesterday froze overnight.
Yes, the roads are far worse today than yesterday!! But all the schools seem to be open today, that we’re closed yesterday. Puzzling???
Amazing mid April snow pack for Northern Lower and the UP! Upwards of 3 feet of SNOW on the ground! ROCK n ROLL will never die!

There you go. Get it all out of your system before this weekend!
The SNOW just keeps coming up in SNOW country baby! I love it!

An odd, yet useful year…looking forward to a 36 degree 4th of July. What a wonderful learning opportunity it could provide.
You never know, you may get lucky and by the 4th of July you may have temps in the 60’s!!!!
I think that a vote should be taken on this blog. Since Rocky loves the snow and cold so much and he loves going out and playing in the snow and he would prefer a climate of year round snow, cold and blizzards, I would vote that as a service to the blog members he should come out and shovel the wet, sloppy concrete like snow that the plow so generously piled up at the end of our driveway! As a further service he should come and clean all of our cars in the morning of the snow and ice! He seems to have endless time to frolick in the snow, why not put it to good use!
Now that was a very creative post! I don’t think that I would time to get that all done and still have time to ski, snowmobile and snowshoe! It is possible that once you get to this week Friday most if not all of the accumulating snow may be done for the season!
Lol!! I should hope so!!
LOL!!
Right on cue with what the models have been showing the past few days: above average temps!

It is cold during Winter. This is Winter…until, and if, it moves on.
Getting a moderate snow shower here at this time. Snow is staying on bare spots of house roofs, note the ground is still covered with the weekends sleet or snow cover so it looks like winter out in mid April. The current temperature here at my house is 33° with that snow falling.

The warmest it has been so far this year in Grand Rapids is 64° while that is the official high for GR the airport is on the SE side of town and on April 12 the further E and SE one was the warmer it was. Here at my house on that day it only made it to 61. Also we do NOT live in Detroit.

This extremely cold April continues. With the month now at the half way point the mean temperature at Grand Rapids is now 34.4° that is colder than a average March witch is 35.6°. We (along with many other locations in the upper Great Lakes and upper Midwest) This year has been one of the coldest starts to April in recorded history. And will likely end up being one of the top ten coldest in recorded history as well.
