I had .95 of an inch of water I melted in my rain gauge yesterday which equaled around 6:1 snow to water ratio – this was minus any rain which fell before the snow started. I had to run my snowblower in first and second gear for it to clear the drive properly. It has six gears and I generally can run it as fast as I can walk. There were a few small limbs and branches I had to clear out first. Then of course I had to shovel the decks and porches which was a treat and was almost like moving cement.
The snow was beautiful though as depicted in the photo I took for the feature image. We had seven morning doves under one of our feeders yesterday before a fat squirrel moved in and chased them away. All morning doves do not migrate to the south in the winter, especial those who know there are bird feeders around for them to eat from. We have several finch and other bird feeders outside our kitchen window – the birds and squirrels have been active there over the past couple weeks. We also have several feeders scattered around the back yard and deck – they eat the food as fast as we can fill them. We keep an ear of corn on the special platform I made on the fence for the squirrels – they have been eating an ear a day.
Below are the snowfall totals for yesterday from the NWS.
We can expect a cold breezy day today with lake effect snow showers especially in the favored counties which pick the snow and moisture off the lake with a NW wind west of US 131. There is an advisory for the northern tier of counties for light snow and freezing drizzle. We may see freezing drizzle mix with light snow tomorrow night through Friday morning.
22* out at thee YARDofBRICKS a nother cold November night January temps so early in the season!! Seeing highs only in the 20’s next week shivering snowman as Bill Steffens says…stay tuned! INDYCOLD!
well, the Floridians are wearing their down parkas – it’s going to hit the upper 30’s tonight….LOL! I have a camera facing Gun Lake so I can watch it snow – I’d guess, based on the drifts that are 12″ high, that we got around 5-6″? It’s always hard to measure at my house where there’s so much blowing – I tend to rely on Michael’s records since he’s sort of in the same snow belt that we are.
Good to hear from you. We got 7″ here. There is talk of another snowstorm for next Tuesday.
Some saying we got 8″ here. I dunno, i measured a lot less than that. Guess we will never know. lol
A lot has to do with how they measure. For example, here’s a pic I took a few years back showing 7 inches:

Now here’s the same snow, but with the way some people here seem to measure, it shows 29 inches:

29″ is hilarious!!!!!!!

There are indications of a system. Not sure how big of a storm that will be. And as for the cold that looks to be in play as well. That said my wife and me will be heading down south on Tuesday and will be gone until December 19 or 20th
Slim
I think that I will keep track of the seasonal snowfall data comparing the RDB predictions vs the GR NWS. I will give this one to the NWS because they were correct in going with an advisory vs a warning and their overall snowfall prediction was closer. Congratulations to the NWS, the score is 1 to 0. Stay tuned for later updates as this winter progresses!
It is almost December and I am ready for the polar vortex to pay a visit!
We have some more snow on the way tonight and especially Thursday night with this coming weekend maybe the last time we see some 40’s for awhile so get your last minute Christmas decorations up or grab your Christmas tree bake some Christmas cookies, IWS is tracking some artic air middle of next week with more snow who would of thought? I agree all signs point towards a Rock n Roll winter! Bring it!
6.6″ at the Lansing airport yesterday, which was a record. 4.8″ at Ford. All in all, the NWS did a nice job with their forecast.
Hmmm??? Where was the 6.5” measurement taken that Rocky claimed that Grand Rapids had?? Another swing and a miss for the RDB!!
Maybe he got 6.5″ at his place. I doubt he lives at the airport. 😬✈
Lol! Well I’m about due west from Rockford and we only got maybe 4” here so there’s that.
