We have had a lot of dry periods through the summer which exceeded a week or more and it appears we are continuing on with this pattern through this early fall. We had .02 of an inch yesterday from sprinkles passing through which is all we have had over the past five days. Our last soaking rains were on August 25th and 26th.
According to the CPC guesses, we will continue with a drier than normal pattern with warmer than normal temps through at least mid-month. That said CPC guesses are apt to change almost daily so we will have to wait to see if that plays out.
We have 57° at 6:30 am. Yesterday’s high was a comfortable 74° with a low of 63°.
Sunrise today is 7:12 and the sunset time is 8:10 pm.
Forecast Discussion
Two shortwave troughs will bring cool temperatures and chances for rain this week. The first will be today as some instability showers are expected this afternoon with trough axis swinging through the central Great Lakes region. Model soundings show steepening mid level lapse rates and some elevated instability although it is not very deep so thunder chances will be low. We should have fair weather for Monday as the trough departs but then a second, deeper trough arrives for Tuesday with surface cyclogenesis and strong cold front bringing widespread showers and a good chance for embedded thunderstorms with deep instability and strong speed shear. We will have to watch for the potential for some storms or convective line segments to bring strong winds given 40 to 50 knot winds less than 5 kft off the ground. Once the front goes through, the coolest airmass since June arrives for Wednesday through Friday and temperatures will fall into the 40s at night with even some 30s possible in the cold spots.
Most definitely enjoying this beautiful weather …INDY
I am really enjoying this weather pattern :D. The rest of September through the middle of October is one of the most comfortable times of year temperature wise (in my opinion). Not too hot, not cold yet.
Both here at my house and officially at GRR there was .05″ of rain fall yesterday. That was the first rain at Grand Rapids since August 24th when just .06″ fell and in the last 25 days there has been just 0.13″ of total rain fall at GRR. At this time it is sunny here with a temperature of 69 with a dew point of 64. While it was indeed cool yesterday afternoon the dew point did reach 67 yesterday during the light rain/mist we had.

Get ready for big cold front next week! Lows well down the the 40’s. The cool pattern is rocking!
