Yesterday we reached a high of 81° with a morning low of 65°. We received 1.76 inches of rain from the storm which moved through in the morning. We now have 4.54 inches for the month.
Local storm reports from yesterday morning can be found here.
Here is the radar from yesterday’s squall line:
My digital weather station was acting wonky yesterday, the temperature and humidity quit working. When I pulled the cover off the rain gauge portion hundreds of ants came pouring out. I took the hose to it and cleaned it all up and now all the gauges are working properly. It is a strange place for ants to set up shop as they have to climb a six-foot pole to get to it.
There is a slight chance of showers today with partial clearing and decreasing humidity as we go through today.
NWS Forecast
Weather History
1956: A tornado struck Gratiot County near Perrinton. Two homes and five barns were destroyed and fifty other buildings were damaged. Two people were injured.
On June 26, 2021, overnight training showers and storms dumped 6 to 8 inches of rain over areas from Ann Arbor to Dearborn to Grosse Pointe. This led to extensive flash flooding with dozens of cars and trucks abandoned on flooded freeways including I-94. Flooded basements and streets occurred throughout the Metro Detroit area and the governor declared a State of Emergency. Later that day, another round of storms produced an EF2 tornado in Port Austin, leaving six people injured and numerous homes damaged.
On June 26, 1973, A severe thunderstorm wind gust of 94 mph occurred at Detroit Metro Airport at 458 PM EDT.
Forecast Discussion
- Patchy Fog This Morning Still quite a bit of low level moisture around with dewpoints hovering in the mid 60s to low 70s across the area. Shallow fog development still looks possible early this morning but cloud cover streaming in from the southwest will act to limit radiational cooling and extensive fog development. Patchy fog with visibilities down to 2-4 miles looks likely before sunrise, but wouldn`t expect widespread dense fog development at this time. - Light Rain Late Morning to Early Afternoon A northern stream shortwave and associated cold front will act as a trigger for a few showers late morning to early afternoon today. Afternoon instability builds with MLCAPE towards of a few hundred with decent deep layer shear supporting a few storms. Minimal mid-level lapse rates and no substantial low level jet winds will reduce the potential for anything beyond general thunderstorms. High pressure builds in on the backside of the departing trough leading to quickly clearing skies during the afternoon and evening. Conditons stay dry through Thursday. - Showers and storms Friday/Saturday A belt of fast westerlies persists across the northern CONUS through the late week and into next week. Shortwave troughs will bring a chance of rain late Friday into Saturday and again Monday night into Tuesday Surface high pressure center moves east with warm advection pattern developing by Friday morning. Moisture advection is also underway with rain chances increasing Friday afternoon and evening as moisture pools ahead of the advancing cold front. Model consensus still has the greatest chance for showers and storms late Friday night. A severe weather threat may be possible late Friday night into early Saturday as Lower Michigan is in the warm sector and model soundings show 30 to 35 knots of shear ahead of the cold front. The limiting factor is the persistence of convective inhibition Friday night into Saturday. Surface high builds in behind the front with fair weather for Sunday into Monday, then another chance of showers as the next shortwave trough approaches Monday night and Tuesday.
Quick question Slim. What kind of weather station do you use? I need to upgrade my weather instruments.
Here you can read about the approved CoCoRaHS rain gauges
https://www.cocorahs.org/Content.aspx?page=approved_rain_gauges
Here you can purchase one

If you want the best instruments Davis is top grade, not sure what Slim uses.
Thanks Michael. Until recently I was still using a really old Davis wind/temp unit but am definitely looking for an upgrade.
I use a CoCoRaHS manual rain gauge. La Crosse weather station with several sensors around the yard and I have a old and I do mean old Taylor hard wire indoor out door thermometer. I always have issues with digital rain gauges and I have do not have a lot of open space for a good wind gauge.

I use a La Crosse digital also and the CoCoRaHS rain gauge. I am upgrading to the newer model rain gauge https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C9VMWLN1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have never had a digital rain gauge that is accurate compared to the analog official gauge, that is why the NWS requires the CoCoRaHS gauge which is calibrated.
After the rain did some weeding in the garden and planted some more beans.
We also picked some raspberries (they are early this year) and made a batch of jam.
I bet your jam is great! Nothing like homemade.
Blueberries should be coming into season if they haven’t already. Think July is the month for that. I used to go blueberry picking at a big blueberry field down by Ganges in Allegan County.
I have a friend who grows acres of them in that area.
Blueberry farm on M222 opened last Friday. Haven’t been out there yet.
Thanks for your compliment about jam. I believe this are ever bearing. They came from my Gma’s house that she moved from my Aunt’s house. Lol. They are organic. My dad said I could pick and sell and charge extra!! Lol. There are a ton of berries and they seem to be a little early usually 4th of July and then again in September (GMA said when kids go back to school). Lol
We have wild blackberries too!!
My favorite jam is strawberry blueberry!! So good!!
My wife has been picking wild blackberries which grow around our property
Ants are intelligent. They knew lots of rain was coming so they took to higher ground.
Or looking for a pool!!! 😆
I had the same thing with my weather station a few years back and thought the same thing. Why did all these ants climb a 6 foot pole to make a nest up there?
Yesterday’s early morning storm had some of the highest winds I have had here at my house in a long time my guest was the winds reached around 50 MPH. The was no major damage but there were a lot of moderate to large branches down. There was one large part of a tree that fell on a garage and there were two whole trees that were uprooted.
