Yesterday we received about a tenth of an inch of snow and ice. The gravel road in front of our house is like an ice skating rink. The USPS truck got stuck because he couldn’t get traction when he was trying to turn around at the end of the road. The melting and refreezing of the road has created a thick layer of ice. Yesterday’s high was 35° and the low was 25°.
The forecast for today is a mix of sun and clouds with a few flurries. Highs will top out in the 20s. Winds decrease today into the 10-20 mph range from the strong gusts of yesterday. A widespread system snow is expected on Saturday. Accumulations are expected in most areas.

Weather History
1899: The greatest arctic outbreak in United States history begins a period of extreme cold in Michigan. Grand Rapids hits 15 below zero. During the next week, temperatures will fall to all-time record lows across the state and much of the continental U.S.
On February 7, 1895, the daytime temperature rose to only 2 degrees in Detroit, which is the record daily low daytime temperature. This was also the third day in a row (February 5-7) that daily low daytime temperature records were set.
Forecast Discussion
- Snow Saturday into Saturday night A low pressure system over the southern Plains Saturday morning will move ene across the OH valley region and bring snow Saturday into Saturday night. Overall medium range guidance trends suggest this system may be a little weaker than it looked 24-48 hrs ago with weaker upper level support. However fairly decent moisture and some lift will combine to bring a swath of around 3 to 6 inches of snow to the northern third of our fcst area (highest totals across our northernmost counties where snow ratios will be a little more favorable too) with lighter amounts further south where the dgz will dry out. There is a fairly good consensus among the ecmwf... gdps... gfs... nam and ukmet in this regard. However we will continue to monitor model trends closely as a bit of a southward shift is noted in some guidance trends as opposed to 24 hours ago in terms of placement of the stronger 700 mb mid level fgen forcing. Snow could overperform wherever mid level fgen banding is stronger/most persistent. A winter wx advisory will eventually likely be needed for portions of our area for this event and the anticipated travel impacts Saturday into Saturday night. - Below normal temps most of next week with more chances for snow Latest medium range guidance ensembles suggest temps will be seasonably cold for most of next week with high temps mostly in the 20s and mins in the teens to single digits above zero. High pressure will bring tranquil wx Sun/Mon. The next system may bring a little light snow by Tuesday but a stronger southern stream system with abundant gulf moisture should stay se of our area.

Weaker?! It’s pretty much gone for anyone south of US10. Disappointing. I still have not plowed my driveway a single time this whole winter. The first I can ever remember.
I’ve used my snowblower once this season. Didn’t really NEED to use it but I figured I’d let it run. Only used it once last season, as well.
Nice looking 8-day from Storm team 8. Lots of 20s. Perfect winter sports weather.
