Repetition is when words or phrases are repeated in a literary work. Repetition is often used in poetry or song, and it is used to create rhythm and bring attention to an idea. Repetition is also often used in speech, as a rhetorical device to bring attention to an idea, often to the point of sarcasm or annoyance.
One example which comes to mind is Dean Martin winter song and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet which some quote quite often:
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
“Oh, woeful, oh woeful, woeful, woeful day!”
which for some go hand and hand especially when CPC outlooks predict opposing views from day to day. Whether wishful thinking or protestation of our current course of strange weather we can only hope for change or decry our dilemma of another winter of snowless dreams with days of rainbows and unicorns, which brings to mind Hamlets soliloquy:
“To be, or not to be – that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune …“…’Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d. To die, to sleep —
To sleep – perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil…”
What does this all mean? What we wish for doesn’t always happen by God’s good grace, for what we guess no matter the data or surety all will be brought to face with laughter or doubt. What happens, happens, all is a but a guess. One can chant their mantra for change to snow or spring we are left to the whims of the currents of nature itself. Thus for today, I leave you with these thoughts as you scratch your head in bewilderment over today’s post.
Repetition is the theme for our forecast for today on through the weekend with very little variation between daytime and nighttime temps. This is all thanks to a meandering low which thoughtfully brings forth a cloudy forecast with light precipitation through Sunday.
Up to .041” of rain and still coming down. Been raining all afternoon, not bad for late January.
I have like snowballs falling out of the sky here in northern Kent!
Accuweather has issued its first spring long range guess. At this time I am not impressed. But here it is. March…. Northeast, mid-Atlantic, Great Lakes, eastern Ohio Valley – Winter conditions can linger into March with a couple of big storms. We expect a colder-than-normal March, but coldest air holds back toward Midwest; ski areas that have suffered through mild and wet early to midwinter may benefit from extended winter season. But an active pattern no doubt, whether rain or snow, can lead to soft, muddy fields by April and possible minor delays working in the fields (moderate confidence). April……Northeast,… Read more »

According it Bill Stiffen so far this is the 4th wettest and the 5th warmest winter at Grand Rapids. I say according because in the past there have been times when Bill has only gone back to 1963 or the start of the”new” airport for some of WOOD TVs records. But I will take this at face value unless I find our otherwise.

I was looking forward to walking to the library this morning- thought it would be nice and warm in the 30s. Of course when I was about 5 minutes into my walk it started to rain. I normally carry an umbrella with me at all times so I am prepared… except for mid winter when I would normally expect only snow to fall. This clearly has been a very very mild winter so far. I would presume we are well above average precipitation wise however. Let’s hope we get a couple of cold weeks next months so we at least… Read more »
This time last year we were about to be blasted with arctic air and tons of snow. We got two feet of snow in a little over a week and high temperatures barely climbed above 0. What a difference a year makes!
Here is where Grand Rapids stands so far this January and winter season. For January the mean temperature is now at 30.6 at this time that is good for the 7th warmest January in recorded history at GR. For snow fall January is now at 11.4″ Since December 1st there has only been 25.7″ of snow fall and for the season the total is just at 32.5″ at this time we are on track for the least amount of snow fall since the wither of 1986/87 when just 47.6″ of snow fell. One side note on that is the in… Read more »

Yesterday was +11 degrees above average and the next several days look very similar.
January is now an extremely warm +6.3 degrees above average after a warm December.
At this time Grand Rapids on track to have one of the top 10 warmest January’s on record.

We’ve gotten .02″ of rain and a whopping 0.1″ of snow all week despite the constant snow predictions by two on here.
Continued no accumulating snow for all of Lower Michigan for the next 5 days in the dead of winter. Incredible!

That’s a map you would see in the summer ! Facts !
It looks like some great skiing up at Nubs this weekend! Making plans for a another trip up to snow country!
Nothing like skiing in 39 degrees with mixed precipitation and melting snow!
Yes repetition is the constant warm weather hype that is posted on this site!
You’re confusing facts with hype. Fact is we’re having one of the warmest January’s in recorded history. Hype is the constant talk of all the non existent cold and record breaking snows.
You are very confused. You’ve been posting about snow coming for the past 5 days and we’ve gotten 0.1″.
Another great example of repetition would be the endless maps that show us getting more snow than the blizzards of the 70”s! Perfect January weather to me with light rain and temps around 40. Some years we’d call this the January thaw, this year it’s just the constant thaw. Question for Slim, are there records kept specifically for rainfall only for January? Seems we have to be at or near the top.
At this time January 2020 is the 18th wettest on record for Grand Rapids. There is no separate record as to how much fall as rain and how much is melted snowfall. But that said 2006 was the 4th wettest January and that January was warmer than this one so far and had less snow fall than this January as well. But we know this year will be in the top 20 or better for total precipitation.
