Record Heat???

It looks like the rest of this week will be on the very warm (hot for late September) side. We are looking at a chance of highs in the mid to upper 80’s for the next several days. The record high for Grand Rapids for today is 90° set in 1931 with 89° in 1914 in 2nd place and 88 in 1940 in 3rd place. For Thursday, the record is 92° set in 1908 with 90° in 1931 in 2nd place and 89° in 3rd place for Friday the record high is 91° set in 1907 with a 88° tie for 2nd and 3rd set in 1908 and 1933. For Saturday, the numbers are record 90° in 1937 and 88 in 2010 and 1930 for 2nd and 3rd place. We shall see how this plays out but we could be looking at some of the warmest September 20th 21st and 23rd in Grand Rapids history. While it looks like we have a chance of seeing some rain over the next week or so it is now getting very dry here in the GR area. We have not had any rain here since September 7th
Other weather news for today of course is Puerto Rico where Hurricane Maria made landfall early Wednesday as a powerful Category 4 storm with winds of 155MPH. Puerto Rico was still trying to recover from Irma.
While Irma did not directly hit Puerto Rico, but still battered the island with rain and wind and left 70 percent of the island without power. Puerto Rico had long been spared from a direct hit by hurricanes that tend to veer north or south of the island. The last Category 4 hurricane landfall in Puerto Rico occurred in 1932, and the strongest storm to ever hit the island was San Felipe in 1928 with winds of 160 mph
