Well, the excitement of heavy lake effect snow has once again floundered as the atmospheric conditions don’t have enough energy to set it in motion. We may see a couple inches or so along the lakeshore counties tomorrow and Wednesday before temps warm once again into the upper 30s by the end of the week.
Wednesday will be our coldest day with temps around 20°
No big systems are foreseen over the next week although there are hints of a potentially impactful system a week from Tuesday.
PM Update:
Rain will change to snow this evening. Any wet roads tonight will freeze up by Tuesday morning, creating some slick roads for the Tuesday morning commute. Snow showers will then continue for Tuesday and Wednesday, keeping the potential for slick roads. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches will be likely along and west of U.S.-131.
I’m dreaming of a Green Christmas…

Keep the facts coming.. Great news !!!
Slim, with today’s rain I would guess we are close or maybe past the record for most rain/precipitation for the year for GR? I think it was down to less than an inch before today’s rain.
At this time it looks like GR total season rain fall amount is at 48.60″ the record is 48.80″ Grand Rapids is now in 2nd place and should reach record levels this year.
Slim
Currently 44* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR temps are dropping artic front is knocking on the door the NWS is calling for 1-3 inches of snow now for GR to the west tomorrow Winter weather advisory coming?? Stay tuned..INDY
Today is the earliest sunset of the year 5:07 pm in Grand Rapids. The sun rose at 8:01 am (I know it was cloudy and you missed it) that gives GR 9 hours and 6 minutes 10 seconds of daylight. December 21st has the shortest time between sun rise/sunset (8:10 am/5:10 pm) with 9 hours 0 minutes and 31 seconds.

Back to currently weather or planet Earth 46* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS NE of GR with rain and wind ..INDY ..
As for as the “big storm” midweek: “Snow totals don’t look too impressive with this round of lake effect snow”
Hey gang here are some fun facts. On this date there have been 3 years in a row with snow on the ground (yes last year had snow on the ground on this date) but that said in Grand Raids history there have been 61 years with 0 or just a trace of snow on the ground on this date (December 9th) of those 41 had no snow at all. This year will be year number 62. Note there have been 52 years with at least one inch of snow on the ground with the most on the ground being 9″ in 2009.

Interesting! I could read stuff like that all day. Thanks Slim! Of course posting about previous years will now expose you to the mocking, ridiculing, and name calling of a couple others. Don’t mind them, children will play.
