We have another warm day today with plenty of sunshine. Clouds will be on the increase tomorrow with rain beginning in the evening continuing through Thursday night. The low should bring rain to most south of I96 with greater totals the further south you go. The heaviest rain is predicted to be along the I94 corridor. The latest NAM models shows PWAT (precipitable water values) in the 1 to 2 inch rain. Storms are possible but not expected to be severe.
You may see some haze due today smoke from Canadian forest fires (left image). Canada has recorded 5,610 fires so far this year, which have burned 865,466 ha. New fire starts totaled 634 in the last week, with 431 (68%) of these new fires due to lightning. Area burned over the last week totaled over 68,000 hectares (168031.66 acres). The number of fires so far this year is above the 10-year average (117%), but the area burned is well below average (39%).

So I see GR hit the magic 90 degrees today! Get ready for a steady temp decline right till winter! Just think in about 3 months it will be SNOWING! Now that is a happy and welcome thought! Bring it!
Unless, like I mentioned earlier, the weather is like 2012 when we really didn’t get any snow until the end of January or February. Then it could be 5 or 6 months away yet. Almost half a year!
All signs pointing to a WARMER and Drier winter!! Bring on the STRONG EL NINO!!!

Good a warm lake Michigan only means one thing SNOW …INDY!!
Well in 2012 the lake was as warm or warmer than it is now, and we didn’t have snow on the ground till December 21. Of course it immediately melted, and January it was 50 degrees. So I guess you could draw a conclusion that a warm lake can keep snow away for the first half of Winter.
Will have to see what the official reading is at the top of the hour but here at my house I now have reached 92°

Can’t be. We were assured of no more 90’s around here. I have 91 here. Third day in a row with a heat index over 90.
Lk Michigan is in the low 80’s in certain areas. Some inland lakes are 85+ degrees. Never seen it this warm. Going for our 14th straight warm day in a row today!
I was just reading that on Bills blog, crazy warm water! On the graph it’s blasting off the top of the chart!

Yes! Lk Michigan is 4-5 degrees warmer than average right now – which is huge when it comes to water temps.
Better for lake effect snow later this year. 🙂
The water temperature at the surface of all of the Great Lakes are very warm this year.
