I don’t have expectations of copious amounts of rain today.
A cold front will track through the region today generating some showers and even a few thunderstorms. The front is coming across the lake as I write this at 7am but both the NAM and HRRR are showing this to evaporate most of the rain when it gets to the coast then redevelop later today when it gets to the Lansing/ Jackson areas.
Skies will clear out from west to east later today and into tonight as a large area of high pressure builds in. This fair weather system will dominate our weather into Tuesday.

If the CFSv2 plays out this could be a very nice and warm May.

Through the first 5 days of May, GR is +12.5 degrees above average. Among the warmest starts to May on record. I also compared the green this year to a picture from last year at this time and it’s very comparable. Slightly more green right now I’d say.
Since 1950 there have been 2 Mays were the first 5 days of May have been warmer than this year. May 2013 the average High for the first 5 days of that May was 79.6°. And way back in 1959 the average high for the first 5 days of May was 83.2° (May 6th of 1959 the high was 90°) so far this year the average high for the first 5 days is 77°. After today and tomorrow May of 2013 was warmer then this year will be.

Wow third hottest start to May.
Funny, when April started out that way only with below normal temps you said it was not that cold and there would be no April records! You were wrong on both counts! Who would have thought?
Rocky, Mookie the game is now on. See top 5 warmest May’s above.

There were no monthly records for GR for April. Not even close.
April 2018 was the 4th coldest April of record at Grand Rapids and the 3rd coldest at Muskegon and over at Flint it was the coldest on record on record and it was the 2nd coldest on record at Saginaw. So no matter how you look at it April 2018 was one of the coldest Aprils in the Midwest and Great Lakes area.

Not sure how this compares to past years (I am sure it was much later this year) But I cut the grass for the first time this year yesterday The grass in now growing and very green. And while the leaves are now starting to come out there are still many trees that have not yet leafed out yet. And looking at the MDOT web cams off to the north the green up has not happened just yet. As much of Northern Lower and all of the UP still has brown grass and in the UP a few spots still have snow piles yet.
