You can cut and paste yesterday’s forecast into today and continue for the rest of the week. I for one am getting really bored with the weather pattern as high pressure continues to dominate with highs in the mid-80s and very few clouds if any pass overhead. Night-time temperatures will drop into the 50s. Clear skies tonight will be favorable for viewing the partial lunar eclipse The earth’s shadow will take a small “bite” out of the Harvest Moon, around 10:44 PM.
Weather History
1972: A severe thunderstorm produces two tornadoes. The first damages a car six miles northeast of Kalamazoo. The second damages a house three miles south of Middleville.
1973: It was a record cool day as clouds and rain held high temperatures in the 40s across western Michigan. The high of 47 degrees this afternoon at Grand Rapids would be followed by a record low of 35 degrees the next morning.
1977: Two tornadoes struck Lower Michigan. One person was injured in the town of Flushing in Genesee County. Thirty homes and a library sustained heavy damage there. Another tornado hit near Westphalia in Clinton County, damaging a house and a garage.
On September 17, 1974, an F2 tornado hit Genesee County at 11:05 pm. This tornado cost $25,000 in damages.

Forecast Discussion
- Dry and warm weather continues through midweek Ridging at the sfc/aloft will continue to dominate the wx pattern through midweek bringing mostly clear to partly cloudy skies and warm temps. High temps today will be a bit cooler than yesterday as h8 temps cool a bit to around 13 C. This in conjunction with ample sun will result in high temps reaching the low to mid 80s today. Mins tonight will be mostly in the 50s with potential for some patchy shallow ground fog again during the early morning hours Wednesday. High temps Wednesday will once again reach the low to mid 80s as we continue to have rather large diurnal temp swings with a relatively dry airmass in place. - Slight chances for rain late this week into next week The influence of the blocking high may begin to weaken and translate east later in the week, allowing some jet streaks and upper-level troughs or lows to move closer to our region. Per ensembles, the earliest chance of measurable rain may be Friday, though this is only a slight chance given so few solutions producing rain. The cold front that will approach Michigan, associated with a Dakota-Manitoba low, is likely to get washed out. There is a little better chance of rain around Sunday, which more EC ensembles are clustering toward as a more robust northern stream low moves over the Upper Midwest. However, southern stream ridging from Texas to the Great Lakes at that time does complicate the picture.
We must have done something right to receive a little “excess” Summer. No complaints.
Not going to lie MV though the title of todays post would be “same old story” like yesterdays! Lol! You could about re use that title right now.
Anyone have a statistic for monthly sunshine? Or the amount of sunshine we’ve seen since August 1st? It’s been incredible!
Heat + non stop sunshine. What could be better? I love long summers!
The official H/L yesterday at GR was 88/56 that 88 was the 2nd hottest high for any September 16th at GR. There was once again no rainfall. The sun was out 99% of the possible time. Took the freeway from Zeeland to Grandville yesterday and it is shocking how brown and dead the landscape is. Looks more like driving through Arizona than Michigan. Third day in a row reaching 90 degrees here. This is getting to be a rather remarkable dry spell/heat wave for mid September.
It sure is dry. I hope farmers are getting their harvest in….
The official total rainfall at GRR so far this month is just 0.26″ At Holland it is 0.33″ The lowest September rainfall at both locations is just a trace set in 1979. in 2nd place it is 0.30″ at Holland in 20004 and 0.65″ at Grand Rapids in 1940. 2004 was very dry at both locations. As for the temperature we are now at 7 days in a row with highs of 80 or better today will be the 8th day.

It is very dry, the trees are looking stressed out… will probably mute the fall colors if this trend continues
Was lucky to see the Auroras last night. The pink was visible to the naked eye and we could see that there were pillars. Once camera put on them…very bright!!!
I saw them too! It was a great display for about 10 mins.
Yes. The pink and pillars we saw with the naked eye…my camera just enhanced it.
I was asleep (missed them AGAIN) but my neighbor got a nice photo about 11:30 pm.
Shuck Mark!!
My mom keeps missing them, too. 😆
