It is so cold that the penguins from Antarctica may choose to migrate northward to the northern U.S.. I am up at 4:30am this morning and the temp is currently -9° with a wind chill of -16°.
One could not ask for more exciting playoff games yesterday with both games going into overtime. The Pats and Rams are going to the Superbowl on February 3rd.
The Wind Chill Advisory will be in place until noon today, even with the sun being out again today our temps will warm up to only the mid teens. Tonight it should be a balmy plus 10° and we should warm to above freezing Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday night and into Wednesday we will see a mixed bag of precipitation of rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow. This system is just moving in off the Pacific so we will have a better idea on the track tomorrow. The cold air will return once again at the end of the week.
Breaking news>>>>>>The RDB model specializes in short range snowfall forecasts and is the most accurate model around! Stay tuned for the latest RDB snowfall prediction for tonight’s storm!!! The gfs continues to show west MI getting hammered with snow in the long range! Mark it down!
This is one impressive temp map and a sign of things to come!

Great news, we are headed into a very wintry pattern! The nws discussion mentions cold and snow as far as the eye can see!
22 inches of snow by Wednesday night?…sounds troublesome, yet routine for a MI winter.
Get ready – over the next 2 weeks we will be getting hammered with the polar vortex and tons of snow! Bring it on? The current gfs model gives gr abound 2 1/2 feet of snow! Incredible!!
The GFS gave us 25” of snow by January 25 a week or so ago…..still need about 22” of snow to fall between now and Friday which will not materialize. Fantasy wishcasting and dreamcasting as usual from the RDB. Wake me up when one prediction actually comes to reality! Guess I’ll be sleeping til April or so!
Remember??? I marked it down….
Andy W
Ok, I’ve marked it for further review, between now and January 25th Grand Rapids will have gotten 25 inches of snow according to Rocky’s trusted pivotal weather maps! Maybe I will stay around just to fact check the RDB and those maps! This will keep this miserable winter weather fun! Let’s revisit this on January 25th.

I’ll mark this one down too for posterity…
On January 21, the “trusted” RDB says 30 inches of snow by February 4, we will revisit this fantasyland Dreamcast on February 4!
Wood has rain in the forecast and a whopping 2″ for GR .. What happen to the so called snowstorm we were suppose to get. Another bust .. Amazing.. Lol !!
We are still BELOW normal on seasonal snowfall ..Facts.
Well that would be our second largest snowfall of the Winter, so there’s that.
Love when Wood tv 8 first news story is about weather..Its still bone chilling cold outside sitting at 9* degrees now …Tracking a storm coming in ..INDY !
WZZM just showed 22 inches for Grand Rapids by next week Wednesday… yikes!!!!
Plow away ….. INDY!!
Well that’s a new one I’ve never seen before. Tv 8 is talking about a Freezing Spray Warning. Is there somebody with a hose outside spraying everyone down?
Lol !
###### WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY starts at 1pm tommorow Stay tuned##### INDY!!
I smell rain in our future .. This winter surely getting shorter by the day.. Spring just around the corner.
You been saying that for a month now lol …INDY!
What’s funny is we are 52 days into Winter, yet we’ve only had 3 days of actual Winter weather.
38 days till Spring!
Lol I know no pattern change ..INDY!
Where did I say that? Stop making things up.
9* degrees out at thee YARDofBRICKS will even make 15* degrees today? Wood tv 8 day forecast snow and cold as far as the eyes can see and still waiting on Winter storm watches or weather advisorys coming for GR North ..Don’t put out the fire yet…INDY!
The GFS is trending wetter BUT the next 2 bigger systems on the GFS are also much warmer with both of the systems having a good chance of rain. The one for this week on Wednesday has temperatures into the mid and upper 30’s and a even bigger system on February 3/4 has a lot of moisture but temperatures in the mid 40’s so if the GFS plays out there will be more rain then snow over the next 10 days or so.

That is great news! Maybe we can end up with a Winter that has more inches of rain than inches of snow. Wouldn’t that be crazy!
+1 .. Loving the sound of that also !!!!
Official low at the airport was -14°. That is 30° below the average low. Polar Vortex!
No record in GR today either with a low of -9. The record holds at -15. This is generally the time of year you will most likely see temps in the negatives.
While no new record for Grand Rapids last night official low of -9° will be the new 3rd coldest low for any January 21 in recorded Grand Rapids history. If that -9° holds for the coldest low for this winter season it would place the winter of 2018/19 in the middle of the pact. There have been 11 other winters where -9 was the coldest low for the year. The range of the coldest official lows here at Grand Rapids have been between -24 in 1899 to +8 in 1921.

Wait till the end of the week then add up our numbers colder lol ..INDY!

Wow crazzy map….Lots of lk effect snows coming this week!! Shoveltuned ….INDY
You know it, yet some on here will say there has not been a pattern change? Keep the winter rock n roll party going!
So what then are the next couple days when it’s back above freezing, another pattern change? Followed by yet another one when it cools down a couple days later?
With clear skies it it a very cold AM here at my house I take readings with 2 sensors and today the “cold spot” is at -12.4° and the other spot is at -9.4° at the airport the latest reading there was -8° And here at my house I have 3″ of snow on the ground at this time. As for were Grand Rapids now stands for the month and winter season for snow fall. For January GR is now at 4.2″ that is still well below average for this date into January by 10.0″ and since December 1st the total snow fall is now at just 7.4″ and that is -28.4″ where GR should be at this date. And for the winter season the total is now at 12.8″ and that is -21.8″ below average for this date. As for temperatures even with the cold GR is still at +3.2 for the month yet.

Coldest temp I’ve had in 2 years with my PWS at -11 this morning, and still dropping. Love this crisp air! Reminds me of being in the mountains with the clean dry air. Even better with only a inch or two of snow on the ground. Here’s a link to my station:
