We are one month closer to the end of meteorological winter and after this past week many will be out cheering on top of the snow banks in shorts and t-shirts as temperatures begin to rise to 50 or more degrees above what we have seen of late. I still believe we should leave Phil the groundhog in his burrow or risk being bitten, not many including animal or human wants to be dragged out of a warm bed to be questioned about the weather.
We started the day with -0.4° just after midnight and have risen to 1.9° at 6:30am. Below are the stats from my weather station for the past seven days…
The summary from the NWS for this past week can be found here.
The wind chill advisory expires at 9am this morning as the temps slowly climb to more tolerable regions on the thermometer. After highs in the mid to upper teens today we will be above freezing for the next several days. Today will be a good day to dig out before temps rise and compact the snow making it harder to move especially with rain forecast for the weekend. Road crews should be able to get the salt down later today making the main roads more pleasant to drive on – back roads will be another story altogether as they will turn to sheet ice as the hard pack melts and refreezes. Regardless, we will have a slushy mess by Sunday with the rain and warmer temps….

Yep and with no forecasted snow upcoming, that will climb once again.
