The landscape is white here in Otsego this morning however there is less than an inch as our snow drought continues. We have had over two inches of rain for the month which would have been a significant snow accumulation if it had been cold enough. Our lack of almost no severe weather this year adds to the boring weather pattern, in fact there were no EF4 or EF5 tornadoes in the U.S. all year.
My Skywarn go bag has sat next to my desk all year with all the expensive equipment unused. The same goes for my snowblower which I had out once this season back in November – I don’t think I even have had five hours of usage since I bought it two years ago.
I bought a generator for the house for backup power about four years ago – I think I have only had to use it twice in that period. It seems when one prepares for the worse the worse won’t happen which is probably a good thing. I believe this is a cycle we are going through now and global weather patterns will change though we may have to wait a year or so for this cycle to flip. There will come a time when we will look back at this in wonder wishing it would come back when we cycle back to severe weather and snow up to our waists.
Today we should see some sun poking out from the clouds with temps rising into the 30s. New Years Eve will bring an interesting mix of freezing rain, rain and snow. North of US10 may see 2 to 5 inches of snow tomorrow. Southwest Michigan could see an inch of rain out of this system before it changes to snow tomorrow night and once again less than an inch is expected.

ROCK ON INDY! The warm weather fanatics are out of control!
20 days in a row. Count them. 20 days with no end in sight!
Hopefully no freezing rain, plain rain would be great! Yesterday was the 19th day in a row above average, and today we hit the benchmark 20th day in a row. This has become one impressive streak! Looking at the 10 day forecast, we have a good shot of an incredible 30 days in a row! Record territory??
the GEFS and GFS are pointing to less than 5 inches of snow through mid-month and temps still meandering…
I think EL NINO may be a little stronger than advertised Michael??
No so far it is Not. it is still very weak but this winter has been what has been advertised as a strong El Nino winter,
